Arvidsson Brace Powers Bruins to Game 2 Win — Series Reset at 1-1

Morgan Geekie bounced in a long-range shot from beyond center as part of Boston's three-goal second-period surge, and the Bruins beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-2 to even their first-round playoff series at 1-1 on Tuesday night. Viktor Arvidsson scored twice — including the dagger 16 seconds into the third — David Pastrnak chipped in three assists, and Jeremy Swayman stopped 32 shots in front of 19,070 at KeyBank Center.

Scoreless Through 20 — Then Boston Erupts

The first period was a tactical rope-a-dope: Buffalo trying to recreate the Game 1 magic, Boston playing close to the vest. Then at 4:54 of the second, Arvidsson beat Buffalo defender Mattias Samuelsson to a loose puck, drove in and beat Luukkonen through the legs after the goalie was late getting his stick down. Pastrnak got the primary assist.

Boston wasn't done. At 16:54 Geekie wound up well outside the zone, fired a long-range shot that bounced past Luukkonen for an unlikely 2-0. Pavel Zacha capped the second-period flurry on the power play at 18:10, again with Pastrnak earning the secondary assist.

Arvidsson's 16-Second Dagger

The most consequential moment came 16 seconds into the third. Arvidsson collected a Mittelstadt feed and beat Luukkonen with the same five-hole finish that had opened the scoring. The Sabres' goalie was pulled — Lyon entered for his playoff debut.

Buffalo's Late Pulse

Bowen Byram scored at 15:08 and Peyton Krebs at 16:22, but with Boston already up four it was too late. The Sabres' power play remained the night's other story — 0-for-5 on the night, 0-for-9 across the series. KeyBank Center had been the loudest building in hockey on Sunday; on Tuesday it went hoarse without ever finding the equalizer.

What It Means

"A series doesn't start until you win one on the road, and that's important for us moving forward," Swayman said. The Bruins now have home-ice advantage as the series shifts to TD Garden for Games 3 and 4. Buffalo, who ended an 11-year playoff drought just to get here, must figure out a power play that suddenly cannot find the net — and a goaltender pulled in one of two games. The rivalry is alive again.
