Cologne vs Regensburg

Regensburg seized control early. Coming off a 9-6 win in Game 2 on 16 August and a 6-5 walk-off victory in Game 1 on 15 August — both on home turf — the Legionäre carried considerable momentum into Cologne. A multi-run first or second inning put the Cardinals on the back foot immediately, and they never recovered.

While individual box-score statistics were not published at the time of writing, Regensburg's offence produced across the board. The pitching staff combined for a shutout on the road — the defining factor in a sweep-clinching performance. For Cologne, the Cardinals were unable to replicate the fight they showed in the two tight losses in Regensburg earlier in the series.

Regensburg's 14 runs matched the series' highest single-game output (they scored 15 in one of the 2024 meetings) and dwarfed their 11-run combined total from Games 1 and 2. For Cologne, scoring zero after putting up 11 runs across the first two games of the series illustrated how decisively Regensburg closed the door. The three-game series aggregate finished 29-11 in favour of the Legionäre.

Regensburg advance to the DBL semi-finals as one of the first teams through, joining the winners from the other three quarterfinal ties. Their next opponent will be determined once the remaining series conclude. For Cologne, the 2026 campaign ends in the quarterfinal stage after they qualified via the Wild Card Race. The Cardinals will now turn attention to the 2027 season.

Regensburg were the better side across all three games and delivered their most complete performance when it mattered most — on the road with a sweep on the line. The Legionäre look well-equipped for a deeper run. Cologne, to their credit, pushed Regensburg to close margins in Games 1 and 2, but the Game 3 rout exposed the gap at the top of the division.
