Chinatrust Brothers vs TSG Hawks

The first five innings were a scoreless pitchers' duel. Brothers starter Yu Chun-Yu (游竣宥) threw 60 pitches across five shutout innings with four strikeouts, setting a new career high in innings pitched. TSG starter Canaan (坎南) matched him with six innings of one-run ball, striking out five and allowing just five hits.

TSG broke the deadlock in the top of the 6th. Tseng Tzu-Yu drew a walk and Lan Yin-Lun followed with an RBI double to make it 1-0. The Brothers answered immediately in the bottom half: Chang Shih-Lun singled to score Chang Jen-Wei, tying the game at 1-1.

The Hawks regained the lead in the 8th. Wu Nien-Ting laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Brothers pitcher Chen Hu's throwing error allowed Magic Yang (魔鷹) to score from second. Lin Chia-Hung added a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 3-1.

But the Brothers fought back in the bottom of the 8th. With two runners on and two outs, TSG brought lefty Chen Po-Ching to face Yueh Cheng-Hua (岳政華) as a pinch hitter. Despite entering the game with a .180 average against left-handed pitching this season and a .167 mark against Chen Po-Ching specifically, Yueh crushed a bases-clearing triple that tied the game 3-3.

The game went to extra innings under the CPBL's tiebreaker format, which places a runner on second base to start each half-inning. In the top of the 10th, the Hawks sent 12 batters to the plate against three Brothers relievers — Lu Yen-Ching, Wu Chun-Wei and Wei Shuo-Cheng.

Magic Yang and Wang Po-Jung opened with consecutive RBI singles, putting TSG ahead 5-3. The hits kept coming: Wang Po-Hsuan added a two-run single, and the inning snowballed into an eight-run outburst — the highest-scoring single extra inning since the CPBL introduced the tiebreaker rule in 2024, surpassing any previous extra frame in that period.

The Brothers managed one run in the bottom of the 10th on a sacrifice fly by Lin Wu-Chin-Wei, but it was too little, too late. Huang Chun (黃群) closed out the game with a perfect inning, striking out two on 12 pitches to earn the win.

Magic Yang (魔鷹) — MVP. The TSG slugger went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run scored. Named the official game MVP — his fourth of the season — Yang got the critical 10th-inning rally started with his go-ahead single that broke the 3-3 deadlock.

Wang Po-Hsuan (王博玄). The centre fielder led all hitters with four hits in six at-bats, driving in one run and scoring once. His .333 season average keeps him among TSG's most consistent offensive contributors.

Lan Yin-Lun (藍寅倫). Three hits in six trips to the plate, including the RBI double that opened the scoring in the 6th. He owns a .375 batting average this season.

Yueh Cheng-Hua (岳政華). The Brothers' pinch hitter delivered the biggest hit of the night for the home side — a game-tying, bases-clearing triple in the 8th despite entering with a .228 season average and poor numbers against left-handed pitching.

TSG out-hit the Brothers 17-8 and drew four walks against three. The 17 hits are their second-highest total of the 2026 season. Despite the 11-4 final score, the game was genuinely tight through nine innings — both teams scored three runs in regulation, and neither side led by more than two runs until the 10th.

The decisive factor was bullpen performance. TSG's relievers held the Brothers to one run (unearned) across 4 innings, striking out five. The Brothers' bullpen, by contrast, allowed eight earned runs across 4.1 innings. Huang Chun earned the win with a clean 10th, while Lu Yen-Ching took the loss after allowing four earned runs in 1.1 innings.

The Brothers also committed two errors, including Chen Hu's costly throwing error in the 8th that turned a potential inning-ending out into a run.

The win lifts TSG Hawks to 12-15, still fifth in the six-team CPBL standings, but ends a six-game skid that was threatening to derail their second-half campaign. The Chinatrust Brothers drop to 13-14 and remain third. The Brothers led the opener of this three-game weekend series 7-0 on 14 August.

The series concludes on 16 August at the same venue. TSG's next fixture after that is against the Uni Lions on 18 August, while the Brothers also face the Uni Lions in their next series.
