TSG Hawks vs Uni Lions

Huang Tzu-Peng was untouchable through five innings — 15 up, 15 down, six strikeouts, and not a single Lion reaching base. The Hawks’ starter had faced the minimum across every frame, generating weak contact and swing-and-miss in equal measure.

The Lions added an eighth run in the seventh on a fielder’s choice, but the game was effectively over. Huang Tzu-Peng was charged with six earned runs — the highest single-inning ER total of his career, raising his ERA from 1.33 to 1.83.

Lan Yin-Lun (藍寅倫) recorded his 800th career CPBL hit with a second-inning double, but the Hawks managed only three hits total and never advanced a runner past second base.

The game turned in a single six-batter sequence in the sixth. After retiring 15 straight, Huang Tzu-Peng went single-sacrifice-triple-single-single-walk over the next six plate appearances — a sudden collapse that transformed a perfect game into a six-run disaster before he even recorded an out in the inning. His replacement, Wu Yo-Cheng, then served up the grand slam on his fourth pitch. The Lions sent 11 batters to the plate; nine reached base.

The 9-3 hit count undersells how one-sided this was. TSG had exactly as many baserunners in the first five innings as Uni Lions (zero each), but once Huang’s command wavered, the Lions piled on relentlessly: nine of 11 batters reached safely in the sixth. TSG, by contrast, never had a runner reach third base. The Lions used three pitchers — Ruei, Li Jun (李軍), and Lin Yi-Ting (林易霆) — who combined for a three-hit shutout on 133 pitches with eight strikeouts.

Uni Lions (13-14, .481) leapfrog TSG Hawks (12-15, .444) in the CPBL second-half table after the opening game of this two-game set in Taitung. The Lions have won three of their last four meetings with the Hawks, while TSG has lost two of their last three. Both teams meet again at Taitung Baseball Stadium on Wednesday 19 August at 18:35 local time, wrapping up the brief series before the Hawks head to New Taipei to face the Guardians.

Ruei Li-Shih was clinical, the six-run rally was ruthless, and a TSG lineup held to three hits had no answers once their ace was ambushed. For Huang Tzu-Peng, it was a night that went from flawless to forgettable in the span of six batters — a rare blemish on an otherwise dominant season.
