Uni Lions vs Chinatrust Brothers

The Lions struck first in the bottom of the first. Chiu Chih-Cheng (邱智呈) singled off Peña, Chen Chieh-Hsien (陳傑憲) followed with a single, and right fielder Chang Jen-Wei (張仁瑋) overthrew on the relay, allowing Chiu to race home from first for a 1-0 lead.

Peña settled thereafter, retiring 10 of the next 11 batters. Dykxhoorn was equally effective, scattering two hits over seven innings with six strikeouts and one walk.

The Brothers tied it in the fifth. Chang Jen-Wei reached base and scored — knotting the game at 1-1.

The decisive moment came in the top of the ninth. Lions reliever Chung Yun-Hua (鍾允華) entered and allowed three hits, including back-to-back knocks. Chiang Kun-Yu (江坤宇) — who finished 2-for-3 — scored the go-ahead run. Li Chen-Chang (李振昌) closed the door in the bottom half, allowing one hit but stranding the tying run for his 10th save of the season.

The top of the ninth. Chung, a rookie right-hander who entered with a 2.75 ERA, surrendered three hits in the inning — matching his total from his previous three outings combined. The Brothers strung together three consecutive hits off him to take their first lead since the fifth-inning equaliser.

• Lu Yen-Ching (呂彥青) — MVP: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 2 K, 0 BB, 11 pitches. The left-hander inherited a bases-loaded jam from Chen Hu (陳琥) in the eighth and escaped, striking out two left-handed batters. He earned the win (3-0) and was named Player of the Game.
• Brock Dykxhoorn (布雷克): 7.0 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 6 K, 1 BB, 100 pitches. The Canadian ace turned in his sixth quality start in nine outings but received a no-decision.
• Felix Peña (菲力士): 6.0 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 4 K, 0 BB, 98 pitches. Settled brilliantly after a shaky first inning against his former club.
• Li Chen-Chang (李振昌): 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 19 pitches. The veteran recorded his 10th save, closing a one-run game for the fifth time this season.
• Chiu Chih-Cheng (邱智呈): 2-for-3, 1 R, 1 BB. The only Lions batter with multiple hits; scored the game's opening run.

The Lions out-hit the Brothers 8-6 but committed one costly error that gifted the first-inning run — which proved to be their only run. Both starters combined for 13 innings, 9 hits, 1 earned run and 10 strikeouts. The bullpen gap was decisive: Brothers relievers (Chiang, Chen, Lu, Li) combined for 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 4 K; Lions relievers (Takashio Masaki, Chung) allowed 4 hits and 1 ER in 2.0 IP.

The win lifted the Brothers to 15-14, jumping past the Lions (14-15) into third place in the CPBL standings. With both rain-postponed games elsewhere, the Brothers gained ground on idle teams. The Lions next face the Rakuten Monkeys on 22 August at Chengcing Lake. The Brothers host the Wei Chuan Dragons on 22 August at Taipei Dome.

A classic pitcher's duel decided by bullpen execution. Lu Yen-Ching's eighth-inning escape act and the ninth-inning rally off Chung Yun-Hua proved the difference against a Lions lineup that managed eight hits but stranded the tying run when it mattered most. Dykxhoorn deserved a better fate after seven innings of two-hit ball.
