The decisive factor was pitching depth: once Paderborn's relievers took over, Heidenheim's bats went cold at precisely the wrong time.

Paderborn complete the reverse sweep 3-2 and advance to the DBL semi-finals, where they will face the Bonn Capitals. The series win is especially remarkable given that Heidenheim (who finished the regular season 23-11) dominated the first two games at home, winning 6-1 and 8-2. Paderborn (19-15 in the regular season) showed remarkable resilience to win three straight elimination games on consecutive weekends. For Heidenheim, it is a bitterly premature end to what had been a strong season — and a blown 2-0 series lead that will sting through the winter.

This was the game of the DBL playoffs so far. Paderborn's ability to absorb an 8-0 knockout punch in the first two innings, methodically chip away for seven innings, and then finish with a three-run ninth speaks to a team that believes in itself regardless of the scoreboard. Heidenheim will rue the missed opportunities in the middle innings when they could have buried the series. The Untouchables march on.
