Kasumigaura vs Naruto Uzushio

Kikuchi's bases-clearing triple in the third inning swung the game decisively. Naruto Uzushio had neutralised Kasumigaura in the first inning, but the four-hit sequence — three straight singles followed by the triple — turned a 1-0 lead into a 5-0 advantage in a matter of five batters. Naruto never recovered.

Kasumigaura's quick trigger to Inayama in the sixth was equally critical. The right-hander inherited a one-out, first-and-third situation and induced a groundout and a flyout to preserve the four-run lead, then worked around a leadoff double and an intentional walk in the eighth to keep Naruto off the board.

• Yuichi Kikuchi (Kasumigaura): The fifth-hole hitter delivered the game's biggest swing — a three-run triple to left-centre in the third. He finished with three RBI, accounting for more than half of Kasumigaura's offence.
• Kota Inayama (Kasumigaura): The reliever threw four scoreless frames, scattering four hits and stranding five Naruto baserunners. His ability to escape two multi-runner jams preserved the margin.
• Kuma Noguchi (Kasumigaura): The No. 8 hitter opened the scoring with a two-out RBI single in the second, setting the tone for the innings that followed.
• Hayashi (Naruto Uzushio): Provided Naruto's only offence with an RBI double in the fourth, but the lineup around him managed just six other hits and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Player of the Match: Yuichi Kikuchi (Kasumigaura)

The 8-7 hits margin undersells Kasumigaura's control of the game. All eight of their hits were concentrated in the second through fourth innings, producing five runs. Naruto matched them with seven hits but spread them across seven innings and never strung together the multi-hit frame needed to threaten Inayama's relief stint.

Kasumigaura committed two errors to Naruto's zero, yet both came in innings where Inayama stranded the runners. The pitching relay — Kobayashi's efficient five innings followed by Inayama's four — held Naruto to a .194 average (7-for-36) and a single extra-base hit (Hayashi's double).

For Kasumigaura (Ibaraki), this marks the first time in school history they have won two games in a single Koshien tournament across both spring and summer editions. They last reached the Round of 16 in 2024 Summer, where they were eliminated in the third round. Kasumigaura joins fellow North Kanto representatives in the Round of 16.

Naruto Uzushio (Tokushima) exit the tournament with a 1-1 record, having won their opening-round game before falling in the second round for the second consecutive year.

Kasumigaura's next match in the Round of 16 (third round) will be scheduled on a later date at Koshien Stadium as the tournament progresses toward the quarter-finals.

Kasumigaura wrote a new chapter in their school history with controlled, opportunistic baseball. Kikuchi's third-inning triple was the dagger, and the Kobayashi-Inayama relay showed the pitching depth a deep Koshien run demands. Naruto Uzushio were competitive on the stat sheet — seven hits, zero errors — but left too many runners on base against Inayama's four-inning shutout relief to mount a serious comeback.
