Jalisco vs Toros de Tijuana

The game began as a pitcher's duel between Skirrow and Jalisco's Luis Ivan Rodriguez, with neither side manufacturing a threat through three innings.

Toros broke through in the fourth. Phillip Evans drew a one-out walk, then Justin Turner roped a run-scoring triple to right-centre to open the scoring. Ramon Flores followed with a sacrifice fly to deep centre, plating Turner and doubling the lead to 2–0.

Jalisco answered immediately in the bottom of the fifth. Gilberto Jimenez led off with a double, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jesus Herrera to cut the deficit to 2–1.

That was all the offence Charros could muster. Skirrow was lifted after five innings, but the Toros bullpen — Adbert Alzolay, Jonathan Aro, Ramon Ramirez and Brett de Geus — combined for four scoreless innings, allowing only two baserunners and striking out five. De Geus worked a tense ninth, putting two runners on with a walk and a single, but struck out Michael Wielansky swinging with the tying run 90 feet away to earn his second save of the series.

The game swung decisively in the top of the fourth when Turner's triple cracked open a scoreless deadlock. Jalisco had held Toros to one hit through three innings, but the veteran first baseman — a former MLB All-Star with the Dodgers — turned on a pitch from Rodriguez and drove it to the gap, flipping the pressure onto the home side. Flores' ensuing sacrifice fly gave Toros breathing room, and Skirrow had all the cushion he would need.

Justin Turner (Toros): 2-for-4, one triple, one RBI, one run scored. The 41-year-old continues to be the heartbeat of the Tijuana lineup, delivering in the highest-leverage spot of the game to date.

Noah Skirrow (Toros): W (1-1), 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K. The right-hander, who led Tijuana in strikeouts during the regular season, wriggled out of a two-on jam in the third and limited damage in the fifth after the Charros scratched a run across.

Brett de Geus (Toros): SV (2), 1.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K. The closer made it interesting by allowing the first two batters to reach in the ninth, then bore down to retire the next three and extinguish Jalisco's comeback bid.

Gilberto Jimenez (Charros): 2-for-3, one double, one run scored. The centre-fielder provided the only consistent spark for a Jalisco offence that struck out 10 times and stranded seven runners.

Both teams managed six hits, but the distribution told the story. Toros strung their two hits and a walk together in the decisive fourth inning — a compact burst of production that Rodriguez could not escape. Jalisco, by contrast, went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. The Charros struck out 10 times compared to Toros' nine, but the more damaging figure was the 0-for-3 with RISP and two outs — a failure to extend innings that left Jalisco chasing from behind all night.

Skirrow's 5.0 innings (4.66 ERA in the series) were hardly dominant — he allowed four hits and two walks — but he induced timely weak contact and handed a lead to a Toros bullpen that has been virtually untouchable. Across three playoff games, Tijuana relievers have combined for a 1.29 ERA.

Toros de Tijuana now lead the Zona Norte semifinal series 2–1 and can advance to the LMB Championship Series with a win in Game 4. As the No. 1 seed with a regular-season record of 60–31 — the best mark in the entire league — Tijuana has home-field advantage throughout the post-season and would host the next round if they close out the series.

For Jalisco, the margin for error is gone. The fourth-seeded Charros (48–45 in the regular season) must win three of the next four games to advance, starting with Game 4 at Estadio Panamericano on Saturday 22 August. The winner of this series will face either Caliente de Durango or Sultanes de Monterrey in the Zona Norte Championship Series.

A taut, well-pitched playoff game decided by one swing-and-miss at the plate. Toros showed why they are the league's best team — a quality start, shutdown relief and timely hitting in a single inning. Jalisco had their chances but could not deliver the clutch knock. With their season on the line, the Charros will need to solve a Tijuana pitching staff that has held them to three runs over the last two games.
