Jalisco vs Toros de Tijuana

Jalisco struck first. Allen Córdoba led off the bottom of the first with a single and scored on a groundout and wild pitch for a 1-0 lead. Tijuana answered in the top of the second: Jesús Guzmán singled, Jimmy Cordero walked, and Tomás Telis drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. In the third, Kyle Garlick tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single. But Wilmer Flores answered immediately in the bottom half with a solo home run — his fifth of the season and first of the series — to restore Tijuana's lead at 3-2. Phillip Evans extended the lead to 4-2 in the fourth with an RBI single. Jalisco roared back in the fifth: Willie Calhoun drove in a run with an RBI double (his 11th double of the season, AVG .294) and Garlick added a second RBI single to tie the game at 4-4. Garlick finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk (AVG .322).

The decisive moment came in the eighth inning. Jalisco reliever Michael Boyle (0.1 IP, L 1-2) entered with two outs and runners on first and second. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position, Boyle intentionally walked Isaac Rodríguez to load the bases, and then issued a bases-loaded walk to Justin Turner — a veteran with over 1,000 MLB games of experience — forcing in the go-ahead run. Brett de Geus closed it out with a perfect ninth (1.0 IP, 0 H, 1 K).

The Charros' bullpen collapse — Boyle needed just six pitches to give up the lead — stood in stark contrast to Tijuana's relievers, who combined for 2.0 scoreless innings.

Tijuana left 19 runners on base, Jalisco 22 — both teams had opportunities, but only Tijuana capitalised when it mattered. The Toros hit 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position, Jalisco 3-for-13. Tijuana's bullpen dominated the final three innings without allowing a hit. Jalisco collapsed in the eighth: Boyle needed only six pitches to lose the lead.

Tijuana (No. 1 seed, regular season 60-31) now leads the best-of-seven Zona Norte semifinal 3-2 over Jalisco (No. 4 seed, 48-45). Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday 25 August at Estadio Chevron in Tijuana. The Toros need one win to advance to the Serie de Campeonato (Zona Norte final). The winner will face either Caliente de Durango or Sultanes de Monterrey.

Jalisco faces elimination: the Charros must win both remaining games to keep their season alive — on the road in Tijuana, where the Toros posted one of the league's best home records in the regular season.
