UVV vs HCAW

UVV exploded for five runs in the first inning to seize control immediately at their home ballpark in Utrecht. They added a run in the second and four more in the third to build an emphatic 10-2 lead through three frames.

HCAW opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first, but UVV's response was swift and decisive. The home side tacked on another run in the fifth to extend the margin to 11-3.

HCAW mounted a late rally with four runs in the seventh inning, but UVV held firm to close out the 11-7 victory.

UVV finished with 12 hits and committed one error. HCAW recorded 10 hits but made two errors that proved costly.

UVV's five-run first inning flipped the game. HCAW had struck first with two runs in the top half, but UVV answered with five of their own — effectively deciding the contest before it was three innings old. HCAW had shown little ability to come from behind against UVV all season, and Saturday was no different until a cosmetic rally in the final frame.

UVV's offence was the story. Twelve hits, multiple big innings (5 runs in the 1st, 4 in the 3rd) and capitalising on two HCAW errors powered the win. No individual batting stats were published at the time of writing, but UVV's lineup produced across the board against a HCAW pitching staff that had held them to 5 runs or fewer in 19 of their previous 21 meetings.

HCAW's late-order hitters sparked the 7th-inning rally, plating four runs to make the scoreline respectable, but the damage was already done.

UVV's 12 hits to HCAW's 10 reflects a game UVV controlled from the outset rather than a close contest. The visitors' two errors contributed directly to UVV's early run production. HCAW out-hit UVV 10-2 from the fourth inning onward, but by then the deficit was insurmountable.

The run distribution tells the story: UVV scored 10 of their 11 runs in the first three innings; HCAW scored 6 of their 7 in the first and seventh frames.

Both UVV and HCAW are competing in the Bottom-3 Pool after being eliminated from playoff contention during the regular season. UVV entered the day with a 5-30 regular-season record (last place), while HCAW finished 13-23 (5th). The Bottom-3 Pool, which also includes Hoofddorp Pioniers, runs a six-game schedule with three games against each opponent.

The win was only UVV's second in 22 meetings against HCAW across all competitions since 2023, snapping HCAW's 19-1-1 dominance in the fixture. UVV face HCAW again later on Saturday in the second game of the doubleheader.

UVV's next match is the second leg of this doubleheader against HCAW later on 22 August. HCAW will look to bounce back immediately in that same game.

UVV produced their most complete offensive performance of the season against a HCAW side they historically struggle against. The 11 runs were a season high against any opponent with a winning record. For HCAW, the Bottom-3 Pool was meant to be a reset — this loss puts early pressure on their response.
