Seibu Lions vs Orix Buffaloes

Orix struck first in the top of the second. Kurebayashi led off with a double and moved to third on Kida's sacrifice bunt. Nakagawa's sacrifice fly to left brought him home for a 1-0 lead.

Seibu responded immediately in the bottom half. Nakamura legged out a double down the left-field line and scored on Yamamura's opposite-field RBI double to right, tying the game 1-1.

The tie lasted only minutes. In the top of the third, Noguchi reached on an error by Seibu third baseman Yamamura and advanced to second. After two outs, Nishikawa walked, and Ota ripped a ground-rule double down the right-field line that plated Noguchi to put Orix ahead 2-1.

Orix added insurance in the seventh. Noguchi singled, So walked, and pinch-hitter Nishino loaded the bases with a single. After Nishikawa grounded into a force out at first, Ota drew a bases-loaded walk to push the lead to 3-1.

Machado worked a perfect ninth — flyout, flyout, flyout — for his 25th save.

Ota's RBI double in the third inning. Seibu had just tied the game and had momentum after Yamamura's clutch hit. But with two outs and runners on first and second, Ota turned on a 1-0 pitch from Sugiyama and deposited it down the right-field line. It gave Orix a lead they never surrendered and knocked the wind out of a Seibu side that managed only two hits the rest of the night.

Anderson Espinoza (Orix) — 8.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, W (11-4). The right-hander threw 96 pitches and retired 13 of the final 15 batters he faced, keeping Seibu's hitters off balance with a sharp mix of fastballs and breaking stuff.

Ryo Ota (Orix) — 1-for-3, 2B, BB, 2 RBI. Delivered both of Orix's go-ahead runs — the two-out RBI double in the third and a bases-loaded walk in the seventh.

Yutaro Sugiyama (Seibu) — 5.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, L (0-1). The Seibu starter battled through traffic all night but couldn't escape the third without damage.

Player of the Match: Anderson Espinoza — Eight innings of one-run ball on the road against a division rival.

Orix out-hit Seibu 7-4 and played clean defence (0 errors) while Seibu committed one costly error that led to an unearned run. Both teams played small ball effectively — each used sacrifice bunts (Orix 1, Seibu 1) and Orix added a sacrifice fly. However, the glaring difference came with runners in scoring position: Orix went 2-for-8 while Seibu went 1-for-4. Espinoza's dominance was the story: after an efficient first inning, he allowed only three baserunners over his final seven frames. The 25,375 in attendance saw just four total extra-base hits — two doubles for each side — and no home runs.

Orix improved to 10-9-1 in the season series against Seibu (Game 20 of their 24 scheduled meetings). For Seibu, the loss drops them further behind in an increasingly tight Pacific League race. The three-game series continues Friday and Saturday at Belluna Dome, with both sides needing every win in the final stretch of the NPB regular season.

Espinoza delivered a vintage performance — eight innings, one earned run, never seriously threatened after the third — and Orix's timely two-out hitting was the difference. Seibu had chances early but couldn't solve Espinoza when it mattered. A crisp, well-pitched NPB contest decided by a single swing and a bases-loaded walk.
