Sugar Land vs Oklahoma City Dodgers

Sheehan, on a rehab assignment, was the story for Oklahoma City. The right-hander threw six shutout innings, allowing just one hit — a Collin Price double in the third — while walking two and striking out nine. He threw 53 of 78 pitches for strikes and did not allow a runner past second base.

Mayer matched him pitch for pitch. The Sugar Land starter scattered two hits over 5.1 innings, walked one and struck out seven. He exited after 83 pitches having allowed no runs.

From the fourth inning onward, both bullpens kept the game scoreless. Oklahoma City used Charlie Barnes (1.0 IP, 1 K), Blake Treinen (1.0 IP, 2 K) and José Rodríguez (1.2 IP, 3 K) to cover the final four frames. Sugar Land countered with Bryan King (0.2 IP, 2 K), Alex Santos II (1.0 IP, 1 K), Christian Roa (1.0 IP, 1 K) and Roddery Muñoz (1.0 IP, 1 K).

The deadlock finally broke in the top of the 10th. Under Minor League Baseball's extra-innings tiebreaker, Austin Gauthier began the inning on second base. After a groundout moved him to third, Gorski — who entered the day hitting .241 on the season — lined a single through the infield to bring Gauthier home. Sugar Land reliever Michael Knorr (0-1) prevented further damage by striking out Eliezer Alfonzo and inducing a Noah Miller flyout, but the damage was done.

Sugar Land put the tying run on base in the bottom of the 10th when Price walked, but Rodríguez retired Braden Shewmake on a popout and Lucas Spence on a flyout to end the game.

Sugar Land's inability to manufacture offence against Oklahoma City's bullpen proved decisive. The Space Cowboys went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left only four men on base across 10 innings. Oklahoma City's pitching staff combined to strike out 12 and yielded just two hits — both singles after the second inning.

• Emmet Sheehan (OKC) — 6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K. Game score of 79, his second consecutive quality rehab start for the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate. He has a 1.46 ERA across three starts (12.1 IP) for Oklahoma City this season.
• Bryce Mayer (SUG) — 5.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K. Game score of 73. The third-year pro lowered his Triple-A ERA to 4.40.
• Matt Gorski (OKC) — 1-for-4 with the game's only RBI. His 10th RBI of the season proved the difference.
• José Rodríguez (OKC) — 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. Earned the win, improving to 3-3 on the year.
• Collin Price (SUG) — 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base. The only Sugar Land batter with multiple hits.

Oklahoma City managed only five hits and went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position, but the single hit was decisive. Sugar Land's two hits were their fewest in a game this season. The Comets' pitching staff struck out 12 batters for the second time in three games, while the Space Cowboys' arms fanned 15 but couldn't get enough run support. The game featured just seven total hits and one extra-base hit — a Noah Miller double and a Price double.

Oklahoma City improved to 69-54 (.561) and maintained their hold on a playoff spot in the Pacific Coast League East. Sugar Land dropped to 66-58 (.532). The win snapped a brief skid for the Comets, who had lost two of their previous three games. The two teams continue their series at Constellation Field on Monday.

A classic Triple-A pitchers' duel that needed extra innings for resolution. Sheehan and Mayer were both outstanding, but Oklahoma City's bullpen depth — and a timely single from Gorski — made the difference. Sugar Land's offence has now managed three runs over their last two games, a trend they will need to reverse quickly.
