LG Twins vs KT Wiz Suwon

LG called on newly signed Australian left-hander Jon Kennedy — making his second KBO appearance — to start the 7th with a 3-1 lead. Kennedy walked Choi Won-jun and Kim Hyun-soo on eight total pitches. After An Hyeon-min also walked to load the bases, LG pulled Kennedy for right-hander Kang Heung-woon.

Kang's control wavered immediately: he walked Hilliard on four pitches to force in a run, trimming the lead to 3-2. Then came the decisive blow. Pinch-hitter Kim Min-hyuk, inserted specifically for the matchup, laced a bases-clearing three-RBI double down the left-centre gap, clearing the bases and putting KT ahead 5-3.

Ryu Hyeon-in followed with an RBI double, and Lee Jung-beom added a sacrifice fly. By the time the inning ended, KT had sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs.

KT showed no mercy in the 8th, piling on seven more runs on seven hits. They added two more in the 9th. LG managed a consolation run in the bottom of the 9th on a bases-loaded walk, but the 16-4 final had long been decided.

Ko Young-pyo — KT starting pitcher. The veteran right-hander settled after the back-to-back homers in the 4th and finished with six innings, six hits, six strikeouts and three earned runs. The win was his 10th of the season (six losses).

Kim Min-hyuk — KT pinch-hitter. Entered the game at the most critical moment of the 7th inning and delivered a three-RBI double that turned the game completely. The hit was the single biggest swing of the night.

Hilliard — KT left fielder. Finished 2-for-3 with two walks and three RBIs, including the early two-run single and a bases-loaded walk in the 7th. He reached base four times.

Choi Won-jun — KT centre fielder. On base four times (2-for-5, two walks), scored multiple runs and sparked the 7th-inning rally by working a leadoff walk.

Moon Bo-kyung — LG third baseman. His two-run homer in the 4th briefly gave the Twins the lead. Finished with his ninth home run of the season.

KT's 16 runs came on a barrage that started in the 7th after the lineup had turned over. The Wiz batted around in both the 7th and 8th innings — six runs on three hits in the 7th, seven runs on seven hits in the 8th. Those 13 runs across two frames turned a 3-1 deficit into a 14-3 rout.

LG used four pitchers after starter Park Si-won, but Kennedy failed to record an out in the 7th, charged with two walks on eight pitches, and Kang Heung-woon was charged with five earned runs without completing the inning.

For context, LG had held KT to one total run across the first two games of the series. The 16 runs are tied for the most KT has scored in any 2026 KBO game.

KT remains alone in first place at 62-41-2 (.602), with Samsung Lions (63-42-2, .600) still breathing down their necks. LG (60-48-1, .556) falls 4.5 games back and misses a chance to close ground on the top two.

The Wiz head to SSG Landers next, starting August 21. LG travel to face the Kia Tigers on August 21 as well. For KT, the message is clear: their offence can explode at any moment, and that alone keeps them ahead in a razor-thin pennant race.

A game that was a taut pitcher's duel through six innings became a blowout in the span of one rally. Kim Min-hyuk's pinch-hit double was the hammer, but the real story was KT's refusal to fold after being held to one run across two consecutive losses. For LG, Kennedy's wild debut in a high-leverage spot proved costly — and the missed sweep opportunity could loom large in a tight standings race.
