Chiben Wakayama out-hit Yashiro 7-5, but the game was far closer than the final hits tally suggests. Yashiro’s two errors created extra opportunities that Chiben Wakayama capitalised on early — both runs came in the second and third innings, before Yashiro’s defence settled. The 2-0 early lead forced Yashiro to play catch-up, and despite threatening in every inning from the seventh onward, they could not manufacture the tying run against a Chiben Wakayama defence that committed zero errors.

Chiben Wakayama advance to the third round (round of 16) of the 108th Summer Koshien tournament, their first tournament win since lifting the championship in 2021. For Yashiro — representing Hyogo Prefecture — the tournament ends in the second round after a spirited campaign that saw them win the competitive Hyogo prefectural title to reach Koshien for the first time in their history.

A classic Koshien second-rounder decided by an early burst and late defensive resilience. Chiben Wakayama did just enough in the first three innings, then relied on clean defence to see out a Yashiro side that grew into the game but could not find the equalising hit. The margin was a single run, but the difference was execution when it mattered most.
