Dallas started strong behind Alanna Smith, who scored seven points in the opening five minutes — including a 3-pointer at 9:09 and back-to-back layups — to stake the Wings to a 15-8 lead. Arike Ogunbowale added a layup at 3:44 to make it 15-8 before Golden State's bench sparked a response.

Tiffany Hayes, who entered having scored at least nine points off the bench in each of her previous six games, sank a layup at 2:55 of the first quarter. Kayla Thornton followed with a layup at 1:40, and Janelle Salaun drilled a 3-pointer from 27 feet with 1:04 left to tie the game at 17-17.

Hayes then beat the first-quarter buzzer with a 35-foot 3-pointer that banked through, giving the Valkyries a 20-19 lead and swinging momentum decisively.

Golden State dominated the second quarter 24-9. Kaitlyn Chen opened the period with a layup, Kaila Charles knocked down a jumper, and Gabby Williams scored seven points in the quarter, including a 20-foot jumper at 6:42 and another from 16 feet at 5:31. Veronica Burton capped the half with a 3-pointer from 27 feet at 4:48 to push the lead to 31-25 (note: actual score).

At halftime, the Valkyries led 44-28.

Dallas rallied in the second half, outscoring Golden State 42-34 over the final two quarters, but the Wings never erased the deficit. The Valkyries' league-best defence, which entered the game allowing an average of 76.9 points per game, held Dallas below that threshold.

Tiffany Hayes' buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter was the moment the game shifted. After Dallas had controlled the opening eight minutes, building a 15-8 lead behind Smith (11 first-quarter points) and Ogunbowale, Hayes' heave from near half-court gave Golden State a 20-19 lead it never relinquished.

The Valkyries carried that momentum into the second quarter, where they outscored the Wings 24-9 to take command. Golden State forced six Dallas turnovers in the period and held the Wings to just 3-of-14 shooting.

Tiffany Hayes (GSV) — The veteran guard delivered the game's most memorable moment with her first-quarter buzzer-beater from 35 feet and finished as Golden State's offensive catalyst off the bench. Hayes has now scored in double figures off the bench in seven consecutive games.

Gabby Williams (GSV) — The All-Star wing was a two-way force, scoring from mid-range, hitting a 3-pointer, grabbing multiple defensive rebounds and recording key steals. Williams was the focal point of Golden State's second-quarter surge.

Veronica Burton (GSV) — Burton orchestrated the Valkyries' attack with defensive intensity early (steal in the opening minute) and knocked down a critical 3-pointer in the second quarter that stretched the lead.

Alanna Smith (DAL) — Smith was Dallas' most effective offensive player, scoring 11 points in the first quarter alone on a 3-pointer and four layups. She finished as the Wings' leading scorer.

Player of the Match: Gabby Williams — Williams' all-around performance — scoring, rebounding, facilitating and defending — set the tone for Golden State's sixth straight win.

Golden State's 44-28 halftime lead reflected the differential in execution: the Valkyries forced turnovers, converted in transition and got production from their bench. The 24-9 second quarter was the decisive margin — a period where Golden State's defensive rating went to elite levels.

The Wings' second-half rally (42-34) showed fight, but Dallas shot poorly in the first half and couldn't overcome the hole. The absence of No. 1 overall pick Azzi Fudd (strained knee, fifth consecutive game missed) continued to limit Dallas' offensive options, with Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale shouldering the primary creation burden.

The win clinches a WNBA playoff berth for the Valkyries (25-9), their second in as many years of existence. Golden State sits in second place in the league standings, 1.5 games ahead of the Las Vegas Aces and 3.5 games back of the first-place Minnesota Lynx. The Valkyries have now won six straight and completed a three-game season sweep of Dallas.

Dallas (20-16) remains in playoff position but has dropped seven of nine. The Wings will return home for a six-game homestand and hope to get Fudd back later in the week.

The Valkyries did what elite teams do — they took control early and held on late when the opponent made a push. Golden State's defence travels anywhere, and with a playoff berth secured, Natalie Nakase's squad can focus on chasing the top seed. For Dallas, the return of Fudd can't come soon enough.
