Both sides entered the final day of the tournament with identical 2-3 records in the classification phase, having dropped into the 9-16 bracket after Round of 16 defeats. China trimmed the gap to 73-71 inside the final two minutes and had possession with a chance to tie or take the lead. Slovenia's defence held firm, forcing a miss, and they converted from the free-throw line in the dying seconds to ice the win. The Slovenian coaching staff's decision to switch to a zone defence in the final quarter disrupted China's rhythm at a critical moment.

Lun Jarc was the standout player for Slovenia, finishing as the tournament's leading scorer for his side (18.0 PPG) and providing consistent production when it mattered most. His all-around contribution — 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game across the tournament — made him Slovenia's most complete player.

Jakob Siftar (16.6 PPG for the tournament) provided secondary scoring punch, while Nejc Roznik controlled the glass (8.0 RPG, 1.6 BPG) and served as the defensive anchor.

For China, Yizhaojie Zhang (13.8 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 3.8 APG) battled throughout, while Boxin Zhao (7.0 RPG, 4.0 BPG) was a disruptive presence in the paint. Minghao Shi (10.2 PPG, 1.8 SPG) added energy off the ball.

Slovenia finish the U17 World Cup in 9th place with a 3-4 record, a respectable campaign for a side that navigated a tough group stage and pushed Australia in the Round of 16. China end their tournament in 10th place with a 2-4 record, showing flashes of quality but unable to convert close games into wins.

Both teams will look to build on this experience at future FIBA youth events. The U17 World Cup concludes later today with the USA facing Serbia in the Final and Australia meeting Türkiye in the Third Place Game.

A closely contested classification match that Slovenia managed better in the clutch. Their superior tournament experience and deeper scoring rotation made the difference against a China side that pushed hard but lacked the finishing polish. Slovenia's 9th-place finish is a fair reflection of their campaign — competitive, occasionally brilliant, but ultimately unable to break into the top eight.
