USA controlled the tempo from the opening tip. Their full-court pressure forced Slovenia into difficult shots early, and the Americans built a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter. The gap stretched further in the second quarter as USA's bench maintained the intensity. Slovenia cut the deficit briefly after half-time, but USA responded with a decisive third-quarter run that pushed the lead beyond 20 points and effectively ended the contest.

The Americans shared the scoring load. Ivanna Wilson Manyacka, USA's leading scorer through the tournament (13.3 PPG), provided her usual blend of drives and mid-range work. Caroline Bradley contributed inside with her tournament averages of 12.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, while Nation Williams (10.0 RPG, 2.0 BPG) controlled the paint defensively.

Slovenia had trimmed USA's lead to single digits early in the third quarter, creating the game's only moment of genuine tension. USA responded with a 14-2 run over the next four minutes — fuelled by three steals in transition — that stretched the lead to 22 points. Slovenia never recovered.

The run was built on defence: Arianna Robinson (3.3 SPG tournament average) and Wilson Manyacka (3.0 SPG) each picked off passes that led to fast-break buckets. Slovenia's turnover count ballooned in that stretch, and the game was effectively sealed midway through the third period.

Ivanna Wilson Manyacka (USA) — The tournament's leading efficiency player (18.5 EFF) continued her strong form with scoring, rebounding and disruptive defence that set the tone.

Caroline Bradley (USA) — A physical presence inside, Bradley's work on the glass and efficient finishing limited Slovenia's second-chance opportunities.

Nation Williams (USA) — Averaging a tournament-best 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks entering the QF, Williams anchored the paint and altered numerous Slovenia drives.

Anais Gobec (Slovenia) — The Slovenian standout (15.5 PPG, 20.0 EFF tournament averages) fought hard to create offence, but faced relentless trapping and length whenever she touched the ball.

USA's 102-point tournament scoring average suggested a shootout, but this was a grind. The Americans' 77 points were well below their own standard, yet they never needed more — their defence held Slovenia to 57, the lowest total any USA opponent has managed in the tournament. The decisive factor: USA's pressure defence generated a torrent of transition points that broke the game open in the third quarter.

The efficiency gap (USA averaging 49.8% on two-pointers vs Slovenia's 39.9% across the tournament) also played out: USA got cleaner looks inside, while Slovenia's shots were contested at the rim by Williams and Bradley.

USA advance to the Semi-Finals on Saturday 18 July, where they will face the winner of the China vs Canada Quarter-Final. The Americans remain on course for a third consecutive U17 Women's World Cup title, having won in 2022 and 2024.

Slovenia move to the Classification 5-8 bracket, a commendable finish for a team that entered the tournament with a 3-1 group-stage record. They will play for fifth through eighth place on Saturday 18 July.

USA were professional and clinical without needing to be spectacular. Slovenia's run to the Quarter-Finals was a creditable achievement, but the gap in athleticism, depth and defensive intensity was too wide. The Americans' semi-final opponent will need a significantly better plan to contain a team that has now won five straight games by an average margin of 38 points.
