Football is one of the most popular sports in Ethiopia, alongside long-distance running for which the nation is globally renowned. Ethiopia has 1 leagues and 20 teams, with the Premier League at the pinnacle of the domestic game. The country holds a special place in African football history as one of the founding members of the Confederation of African Football and the winner of the inaugural Africa Cup of Nations in 1962.

Despite financial and infrastructural challenges, Ethiopian football maintains a dedicated following, with clubs in Addis Ababa drawing large crowds and generating passionate support.
