GOR Mahia vs Al Hilal Omdurman

Gor Mahia took the lead in the 34th minute through an own goal. A cross into the Al Hilal box was turned into his own net by Al Hilal defender S. Ebuela under pressure, handing the Kenyan champions a 1-0 advantage.

The lead lasted only 10 minutes. Al Hilal responded just before half-time when A. Samura found the net in the 44th minute, levelling the score at 1-1. The scoreline remained unchanged through the second half and extra time, despite both sides creating chances.

The penalty shootout became the match's defining narrative. Gor Mahia missed their first spot-kick, and Al Hilal scored theirs to lead 1-0. Both sides then converted rounds 2, 3 and 4, leaving Al Hilal 4-3 ahead. Gor Mahia scored their fifth penalty; Al Hilal missed theirs — 4-4 after five rounds.

Gor Mahia advance to the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2026 final, where they will face the winner of the other semi-final between Rayon Sport FC (Rwanda) and Jamus SC (South Sudan), played later on 4 August at the Amahoro Stadium. The tournament champion receives US$30,000, the runner-up US$20,000.

For Gor Mahia, three-time winners of the competition, this is a shot at a first title since 1985 — a 41-year drought. Al Hilal Omdurman, who reached the final of the 2025 edition, exit at the semi-final stage.

The final is scheduled for 7 August 2026 at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

Gor Mahia did not dominate open play against a well-organised Al Hilal side, but their composure from 12 yards proved decisive. Converting eight spot-kicks in a 10-round shootout under the pressure of a semi-final requires nerve that could serve them well in the final. Al Hilal will rue their missed chances to kill the game inside 90 minutes.
