This was a pre-season tune-up for both clubs during the Allsvenskan's World Cup break. Häcken, second in the table, resume their league campaign at home to Djurgården on 6 July. Hammarby — currently fourth — travel to Elfsborg on 5 July. The result will be of more comfort to Hammarby, who look sharp in attack despite Rydström's absence from the dugout. Häcken's four goals conceded will raise a question mark, though head coach Jens Gustafsson was unconcerned: "Not in the slightest. We've been so solid at the back — no big deal."

Hammarby's response to going a goal down was emphatic and professional. A 4–1 win away from home — even a friendly — against a side sitting above them in the table sends a clear statement of intent before the Allsvenskan restart. For Häcken, the defensive soft centre that appeared in that 19-minute window is the one thing Gustafsson will want to fix before Djurgården visit.
