Fernwald vs Sportfreunde Siegen

The game was effectively over inside the opening half-hour. Fernwald, who only began pre-season training that week under coach Steuernagel, were facing a Siegen side already a week into their preparations and with two wins behind them (6-0 vs Cosmos Koblenz, 13-0 vs FC Eiserfeld). Güler's quickfire double — goals in the 26th and 53rd minutes — showcased the quality gap between the fourth-tier Regionalligisten and the fifth-tier Hessenliga hosts.

Serhat-Semih Güler — The Darmstadt arrival needed no settling-in period. Two well-taken finishes, one either side of half-time, underlined why Siegen moved for him. A dream start to his Siegen career, as the Siegener Zeitung noted.

Dustin Willms — Followed up his hat-trick against FC Eiserfeld (30 June) with the opening goal here. He has four goals in two pre-season appearances.

Ermal Dacaj — Controlled midfield and got on the scoresheet with Siegen's third in the 33rd minute. A composed presence throughout.

Rikuhei Nabesaka — Came off the bench (the Eiserfeld match report confirms he was a half-time substitute in that game) and scored the fifth, one of several Siegen players making a strong case for a starting role.

The 0-6 scoreline reflects a fixture between teams at different stages of pre-season and different levels of the German pyramid. Fernwald, undergoing a squad rebuild after the departures of Woiwod, Hahn, Furkert and Cloos, were never expected to match a Siegen side with Regionalliga experience and sharp fitness. The three first-half goals inside nine minutes (24'–33' Willms, Güler, Dacaj) set the tone, and Siegen's ability to maintain intensity after the break — adding three more in the second half — speaks to a squad building momentum ahead of the Regionalliga West season starting on 1–2 August.

For Sportfreunde Siegen, this was the third and most convincing step in their pre-season programme. Next up is the Germanen-Cup final on Sunday 5 July, followed by a training camp in Bad Marienberg (7–10 July) before further tests against TuS Koblenz (11 July) and Eintracht Frankfurt II (18 July). Their Regionalliga West opener is scheduled for the first weekend of August.

For FSV Fernwald, this was their first pre-season friendly under new preparations for the 2026/27 Hessenliga campaign. The result is a reality check, but also valuable competitive minutes for a side in transition. They continue their build-up on Sunday 5 July with a trip to FSG Wisselheim.

A routine pre-season win for a Siegen side that looks sharp and well-drilled. Güler's double on debut will grab the headlines, but the collective performance — clean sheet, six different goalscorers across two halves — suggests Boris Schommers' squad is building form at the right time. Fernwald have work to do before the Hessenliga season, but that was always the expectation against a side two divisions above them.
