SSV Ulm 1846 vs Augsburg II

Ulm dominated possession in the first half without creating clear-cut chances. Benjamin Goller won the ball in a promising position in the 38th minute but Augsburg cleared inside the box. Keereerom and Dennis Chessa had efforts blocked shortly after.

A breakthrough appeared to arrive in the 43rd minute when Keereerom tapped in from Oliver Wähling's shot, but the flag went up for offside. In first-half stoppage time, Keereerom struck the post with a volley from a corner.

The pattern continued after the interval. Keereerom hit the woodwork again within the first minute of the second half, and Steffen Meuer saw a shot whistle narrowly wide in the 53rd minute.

54' — Keereerom makes it 1-0. The Thai winger tried his luck from the edge of the box for a third time, and this time the ball arrowed inside the far post.

56' — Sahin equalises for Augsburg II. A deflected shot from Sahin looped into the far corner, levelling the score just two minutes after Ulm's opener.

Radomir Novakovic kept Ulm level with a sharp save at his near post in the 58th minute. Emanuel Taffertshofer, signed only the day before, entered the game in the 71st minute on his debut for the Spatzen.

With the match heading for a draw, Mrden collected the ball 16 metres from goal in the first minute of stoppage time and struck low and hard into the corner. The 91st-minute winner was the last action of the game, rewarding Ulm's sustained pressure against a side that had largely contained them after the quick equaliser.

Achitpol Keereerom (SSV Ulm) — The winger was Ulm's most dangerous attacker throughout. He had a goal disallowed, hit the post twice, and finally scored the opener in the 55th minute. His persistence was rewarded with a well-taken finish.

Mateo Mrden (SSV Ulm) — Introduced at the hour mark, the forward had already set up Tibet Sevik in the 82nd minute only for the chance to go begging. He made no mistake with his stoppage-time winner, his third goal of pre-season after a brace against VfB Eichstätt on 10 July.

Emanuel Taffertshofer (SSV Ulm) — The newly signed midfielder, who joined from Cypriot side Akritas Chlorakas, made his debut as a 71st-minute substitute. He slotted into the No. 6 role and helped see out the final phase before Mrden's winner.

Ulm's 1.96 xG to roughly 1.12 for Augsburg (estimated from shot locations) reflects a game the hosts controlled for long spells but struggled to convert. Seven of their 14 attempts came in the first half, yet the score remained 0-0 at the break. The defining pattern was Ulm's inability to score from sustained pressure, offset by a clinical finish from Mrden when the most efficient opportunity arrived. Keereerom's two woodwork strikes and the disallowed offside goal illustrate the fine margins of a pre-season friendly that could easily have finished 4-1.

Ulm continued their unbeaten pre-season run with a fifth win from five friendlies under head coach Daniel Jungwirth. The Spatzen opened their campaign with a 4-1 win over TSV Berg on 6 July, followed by three more victories in their Oberstaufen training camp. The Regionalliga Südwest season begins on 7 August away at Stuttgarter Kickers.

Augsburg II, playing their first pre-season fixture of the summer, showed defensive organisation and struck back quickly after falling behind. The U23 side will continue preparations for the Regionalliga Bayern season.

SSV Ulm host FC Bayern München II at the Donaustadion on Sunday, 19 July (15:00 local time) in their annual Saisoneröffnung (season-opening event), which also includes a service at Ulm Minster.

A classic pre-season friendly: Ulm dominated, hit the woodwork twice, had a goal ruled out, and still needed a stoppage-time winner to see off a well-organised third-division reserve side. Mrden's cool finish rescued a result that the balance of play probably deserved, but Jungwirth will want more ruthlessness in the final third before competitive action begins on 7 August.
