Chemnitzer FC vs SpVgg Unterhaching

The scoreline tells a story of dominance, but the opening minutes belonged to Unterhaching. Janek Frensch's side pressed high and created a series of early chances — Jeroen Krupa struck the crossbar in the 12th minute, and Chemnitz goalkeeper David Wunsch denied Alexander Winkler, Cornelius Pfeiffer and Moritz Müller in quick succession.

Fesser's 7th-minute opener was the moment Unterhaching's early momentum evaporated. Until then, the visitors had looked the sharper side. Wunsch's save from the initial Berlinski shot fell kindly, but Fesser's predatory reaction — a hallmark of his form since recovering from a thigh injury — punished Unterhaching for not converting their own chances. The goal shifted the psychological balance entirely.

Maximilian Fesser — Player of the Match. The summer signing from SpVgg Bayreuth scored one and created two more, taking his pre-season tally to three goals in his last two appearances. His pace on the counter and willingness to run at defenders made him Unterhaching's primary problem all evening.

Ron Berlinski — A brace inside three minutes (34', 37' pen) took his pre-season goal count to four. The 31-year-old striker's link-up with Fesser is developing into a genuine threat ahead of the Regionalliga Nordost campaign.

David Wunsch — The 23-year-old goalkeeper made at least half a dozen saves in the first half alone, keeping Chemnitz in the game before the attack took over. "It's a great feeling to help the team like that," Wunsch said after the match (per Blick.de).

The match page shows three goals in a 30-minute first-half spell, but that understates the contest. Unterhaching had the better of the opening 15 minutes — multiple clear chances, a woodwork strike — and Wunsch's shot-stopping kept Chemnitz level. The visitors' inability to convert early pressure into a goal, followed by Fesser's clinical finish, tells the real story of a game that was closer than 3-0 suggests. The second half, disrupted by multiple substitutions from both sides, produced no further goals and only a late yellow-card altercation between Aaron Mensah and Erion Avdija.

Chemnitzer FC remain unbeaten in pre-season — their ninth friendly of the summer. The clean sheet was their seventh in nine outings, with only three goals conceded across the entire preparation phase. Next up is the general rehearsal on Saturday 18 July against Greuther Fürth II (14:00, Hauptstadion Kappel), followed by the Regionalliga Nordost opener at Hertha BSC II on 25 July.

For Unterhaching, the defeat is a setback in their own Regionalliga Bayern preparations. The side from the Munich suburbs created chances but lacked a cutting edge in front of goal.

A scoreline that flatters Chemnitz slightly — Unterhaching were the better side for the first 20 minutes — but the quality of Fesser and Berlinski in the final third made the difference. Chemnitz's defensive solidity (three goals conceded in nine friendlies) is a genuine asset heading into league action. The Fesser-Berlinski combination is worth watching on 25 July.
