KRC Genk II vs RWDM

The home side started brightly. Driessen opened the scoring inside four minutes, capitalising on a sharp early move. But RWDM hit back immediately — Mats Lemmens levelled in the seventh minute, the former Genk academy player scoring against his old club.

Genk's response was emphatic. Nzoko put the hosts back in front on the half-hour mark, and Kim added a third before the break to send Jong Genk into the tunnel with a 3–1 lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Coenen scored his first of the afternoon in the 67th minute to make it 4–1, and although RWDM pulled another back with 16 minutes remaining, the fightback was short-lived. Coenen converted a penalty in the 80th minute for his second, and Saidi rounded off the scoring four minutes from time.

RWDM's equaliser after four minutes could have unsettled a younger side, but Genk's immediate response — retaking the lead through Nzoko before half-time — swung momentum decisively. The 3–1 scoreline at the break meant RWDM needed to chase the game in the second half, leaving space that Genk's substitutes exploited ruthlessly.

• Coenen — The substitute scored twice after coming on at half-time, including a coolly taken penalty, and was the game's most decisive individual.
• Nzoko — A goal and an all-action display from midfield; his strike in the 30th minute restored Genk's lead when the game was finely balanced.
• Driessen — His fourth-minute opener set the tone and gave Genk the early platform they needed.
• Saidi — Another half-time substitute who got on the scoresheet with a late finish, capping a strong cameo.

The 6–2 scoreline reflects a game of two halves. Genk led 3–1 at the break after a frenetic first 45 minutes, but the numbers tell a story of clinical finishing rather than complete territorial dominance. The home side scored with six of their shots on target, while RWDM's two goals — both from open play — came from a relatively modest number of chances. The fixture, which had produced an average of just 2.0 goals per game across six previous meetings, saw its highest-scoring edition by some distance.

Jong Genk have opened their pre-season schedule with back-to-back victories, following a 10–0 win against Kabouters Opglabbeek on 11 July. The result continues a positive build-up for a side preparing for the 2026–27 Challenger League campaign. RWDM, who also play in the Belgian second tier, will look to sharpen up defensively as their pre-season programme continues. Genk's next friendly is against Jong PSV on 18 July.

A one-sided scoreline that tells the truth: Genk's young side were sharper, quicker in transition, and more clinical in front of goal. RWDM's early equaliser proved a false dawn, and they were unable to cope with the volume of attacking threats Genk rotated through the game. The margin of victory was fully deserved.
