Slovan Bratislava vs Pafos

Slovan started at full throttle. Inside three minutes, midfielder Ibrahim collected the ball inside the box and fired past goalkeeper Papastylianou to give the hosts an early lead. The Slovak champions dominated the opening half-hour but struggled to turn possession into a second goal.

Pafos grew into the match and equalised three minutes before half-time. Centre-back David Goldar, the former Cádiz defender, converted from close range after a set-piece scramble.

Slovan responded immediately. In first-half stoppage time, Yirajang — a livewire on the left flank — cut inside and curled a finish into the far corner to restore the lead at 2-1.

Pafos came out sharper after the interval. Winger Biel levelled again in the 52nd minute, slotting home after Slovan's defence failed to clear a cross. At 2-2, the game was wide open.

The decisive moment arrived in the 73rd minute. Šporar, wearing the captain's armband, latched onto a pass in the box and beat the goalkeeper with a composed finish to make it 3-2.

Slovan held on through a nervy final 20 minutes. The hosts saw out two minutes of stoppage time without further alarm.

Slovan's inability to hold a lead twice risked undermining a promising attacking display. The real shift came when Touré's side refused to let the second equaliser drain their confidence. Within 21 minutes of Biel's goal, Šporar had restored the advantage — a sign of the aggressive mentality Touré is trying to instil.

Alasana Yirajang (Man of the Match) — The Gambian winger was unplayable in the first half. He scored a stunning solo goal, created two or three clear chances, and consistently beat his full-back. Slovan's three goals came from sustained attacking intent rather than dominance in possession: the hosts created high-quality chances early and on the counter. Pafos's two goals, both from inside the box, highlighted a defensive vulnerability that Touré acknowledged post-match: "We create chances, score, and then we retreat into defence." Pafos showed their quality in spells — no surprise for a side that played in last season's Champions League group stage — but their pre-season turnover in personnel meant defensive cohesion was lacking, particularly on the right side where Yirajang ran riot.

Slovan finished their pre-season programme with three wins, one draw and one defeat since late June. More importantly, this was Touré's first match at the Tehelné Pole dugout after replacing club legend Vladimír Weiss. The squad now shifts focus to competitive action: the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, away at Georgian champions Iberia 1999 Tbilisi on Tuesday 21 July.

Pafos, who won the Cypriot Cup last season, continue their pre-season tour of central Europe. They have faced Cracovia, Jablonec and Jagiellonia Białystok in recent weeks.

A useful pre-season workout for both sides. Slovan showed attacking verve under Touré but will need to address the defensive lapses before the Champions League tie. Yirajang's performance was the most encouraging sign — if the 21-year-old can maintain that level, Slovan possess a genuine game-breaker for the season ahead.
