Getafe vs Reading

Reading looked the sharper side from the outset. Jack Marriott tested Jiri Letáček with a low drive inside the first 10 minutes, and the League One visitors continued to find space behind a Getafe defence that was visibly labouring after heavy training loads.

The match took a physical toll early. Centre-back Abdel Abqar pulled up with a quadriceps problem in the 23rd minute and was replaced by Sebastián Boselli. Four minutes later, new signing Andrés García also departed with muscular discomfort.

Reading's Daniel Kyerewaa sent a shot over the bar on the half-hour mark, and Boselli had to block a goal-bound effort from inside the six-yard box just before the break. The visitors went into half-time having created the clearer chances.

Bordalás made a change at the interval, sending on Ibrahima Danfakha for Borja Mayoral, while Reading replaced all 11 outfield players. The pattern continued into the second half as Kiko Femenía (58') and Djené (63') both succumbed to muscle injuries, making way for Alberto Risco and Christantus Uche respectively.

Just when the game seemed destined for a goalless stalemate, Satriano produced the decisive moment. Picking up possession on the left edge of the penalty area, the Uruguayan shifted the ball onto his left foot and drilled a low, precise shot across the goalkeeper and inside the far post.

Reading pushed for an equaliser. Letáček tipped a dangerous free-kick around the post in the 83rd minute, and the visitors had a goal ruled out for offside in the closing stages. Getafe held on to secure a narrow but morale-boosting win.

Martín Satriano (Getafe) — The match-winner. His composed finish was the only moment of real quality in the final third. Aside from the goal, he linked play well as a lone forward before being withdrawn late on.

Jiri Letáček (Getafe) — Made several important saves, including a sharp stop from Marriott early on and the crucial 83rd-minute free-kick denial. A clean sheet on his first outing of pre-season.

Jack Marriott (Reading) — Reading's most dangerous attacking outlet. His pace and movement caused problems throughout the first half, and he forced the best save of the opening period.

The match was a typical first pre-season friendly — cagey, interrupted by substitutions and disrupted by injuries. Reading created the better chances but lacked a cutting edge in the final pass. Getafe's defensive organisation held firm despite the constant changes at the back, and they took their one clear opportunity. The four muscle injuries will be Bordalás' primary concern rather than the performance level.

Getafe begin their 2026/27 pre-season with a win under Bordalás. They face CD Tenerife next on Wednesday 22 July in their second friendly of the summer. Reading, who fielded two entirely different XIs across the two halves, continue their own pre-season tour in Alicante.

A functional win for Getafe that answered few questions about their attacking cohesion but demonstrated the physical demands Bordalás imposes in pre-season. Reading will take encouragement from their first-half dominance but need to convert chances. The injury count — four players forced off — is the biggest takeaway.
