1. FC Heidenheim vs Hamburger SV

HSV doubled their lead four minutes after the restart. Substitute Philippe was played clean through and finished coolly into the bottom-right corner past Thomas Dähne, who had replaced Feller at half-time (49').

Heidenheim struck back in the 54th minute. Mhamdi's shot from outside the box took a deflection off HSV academy graduate Jason Bissi Mouelle and wrong-footed Daniel Heuer Fernandes — 2-1.

But the lead lasted only three minutes. Grønbæk turned provider, slipping Daka in on goal, and the striker made no mistake from close range for his first HSV goal (57').

Louis Lemke headed a chance goalwards (63') and Immanuel Pherai tried an acrobatic volley (76'), but HSV had already made wholesale changes. The 16-year-old Lemke was replaced by another new signing, Bilal Nadir, with around 15 minutes left. Kofi Amoako had one late opportunity in the 85th minute as HSV saw out the win.

Daka's 34th-minute introduction changed the complexion of the match. Heidenheim had been growing into the game before his arrival, but his speed and physical presence immediately created the penalty that broke the deadlock. His goal 23 minutes later sealed the result. The Zambian contributed to all three HSV goals in just 56 minutes of game time.

Patson Daka (HSV) — Won the penalty, scored the third goal, and constantly stretched the Heidenheim defence. A dream debut by any measure. Player of the match.

Albert Grønbæk (HSV) — Scored the opening penalty and provided the assist for Daka's goal. Two goal involvements in 62 minutes before being substituted.

Rayan Philippe (HSV) — Came on at half-time and scored within four minutes. Also forced a save with a free-kick soon after.

Oualid Mhamdi (Heidenheim) — The Moroccan midfielder, who joined Heidenheim following his breakthrough 3. Liga season at SC Verl, scored a deflected consolation goal from range.

This was a game of two distinct halves. Heidenheim controlled possession in the first period without creating clear chances — their best opportunity came from a set piece. The xG picture would likely reflect HSV's clinical edge: three goals from three big moments (penalty, one-on-one, close-range finish) against Heidenheim's single deflected effort finding the net. The 16 substitutions made across both sides (HSV made 11 alone) reflect the pre-season context, with fitness and minutes shared more than tactical continuity.

HSV wrap up their week-long training camp in Austria with a second pre-season victory, having beaten SK Rapid Vienna earlier in July. They face Premier League side Everton at the Volksparkfestival on 1 August. Heidenheim, who beat SCR Altach 2-1 on 4 July in their earlier pre-season outing, host the Max Liebhaber-Pokal on 1 August before beginning their 2. Bundesliga campaign at home against newly-promoted Osnabrück on 8 August.

A convincing workout for HSV, who will be encouraged by how quickly new signing Daka integrated. Heidenheim will take positives from spells of control but need more cutting edge before the competitive season starts. The scoreline flattered the margin — Heidenheim were competitive for long stretches — but HSV's quality in transition was decisive.
