Latvia could not have asked for a better opening. Inside two minutes, Mikelis Menniks swung in a dangerous free kick and Deivids Baltrusaitis met it with a left-footed finish to give the hosts a 1–0 lead. It was Baltrusaitis' first goal of the qualification campaign and the earliest strike of the match.

Set up in a 3–5–2 system under coach Andrejs Gluscuks, Latvia pressed high from the first whistle and looked comfortable in possession during the opening exchanges.

With just two minutes of regulation time left, Menniks — already provider of the opening goal — delivered another telling ball into the danger area. Blums was on hand to convert and make it 2–2, sending the Latvia bench into celebration.

There was no time for either side to find a winner. The final whistle confirmed the second consecutive draw between these two nations at U17 level, following their 1–1 stalemate in the 2023 qualification cycle.

Armend Muslika (Albania U17) was the standout player of the match. The Albanian forward scored twice — a composed penalty and a powerful strike from distance — taking his tournament tally to three goals. He remains the primary attacking threat for Armand Dama's side.

Mikelis Menniks (Latvia U17) was instrumental in both Latvia goals, providing two assists from set-piece and open-play situations. His delivery from dead-ball situations caused problems all afternoon.

Ralfs Blums (Latvia U17) entered as a substitute and produced the moment of the match — a clinical finish with two minutes left on the clock to rescue a point for the hosts.

The match was part of the second round of UEFA U17 Championship qualifying, with both teams competing in League B Group 6 alongside Ukraine U17. The draw leaves both sides with work to do as the group stage progresses. Albania missed a golden opportunity to take maximum points after taking a late lead, while Latvia will take heart from their resilience and ability to fight back.
