Spelle-Venhaus vs FC Gutersloh

Spelle-Venhaus started brightly, pinning the visitors back in their own half during the opening five minutes and forcing an early corner that came to nothing. A 15-minute spell of Gütersloh pressure followed — without clear chances — before the Emsland side struck decisively.

The goal came from a co-production by two summer signings from SV Meppen's U23 side. Joe Klöpper launched a long ball behind the FCG defence, Daniel Benke sprinted onto it and crossed first-time, and the 20-year-old Höpfner twisted past a defender before finishing calmly past goalkeeper Jarno Peters.

Spelle nearly doubled their lead five minutes later. Evers had two further chances before half-time: one shot drifted narrowly wide, another was blocked. "A deserved lead after 45 minutes. It could have been 2-0," Spelle sporting director Tobias Harink said via the club website.

Henry Hupe made seven half-time substitutions, completely reshaping his side. The change disrupted Spelle's rhythm and invited Gütersloh pressure — the Regionalliga side dominated the second period. Mattis Niemann, the replacement goalkeeper, made a crucial one-on-one save in the 63rd minute; seconds later a Gütersloh forward somehow missed from three metres out.

Spelle survived the storm. Matteo Echelmeyer and Höpfner again created chances on the break, while Gütersloh's Justin Lukas (52'), Hannes John (63') and Julius Langfeld (87') all tested Niemann. The ball "simply did not want to go in" for the visitors, their liveticker noted.

Tjark Höpfner (Spelle-Venhaus) — The 20-year-old summer signing not only scored the winner but forced a second-half save and led the line intelligently. A standout shift in his first outing for the club.

Daniel Benke (Spelle-Venhaus) — Provided the assist for the goal and created Evers' chance that hit the crossbar. Direct and dangerous down the right flank in the first half.

Jarno Peters (FC Gütersloh) — The FCG goalkeeper kept the scoreline respectable with that crucial crossbar save and several sharp stops. Could not be faulted for the goal.

Mattis Niemann (Spelle-Venhaus) — Replaced Lichtenstein at half-time and made at least three important saves, including a one-on-one in the 63rd minute that preserved the lead.

The one-goal margin flatters the closeness of the contest. Spelle-Venhaus created the clearer chances before the break and held a deserved lead; Gütersloh racked up territory and half-chances after it but lacked a cutting edge. The hosts' disciplined defensive block — praised by Harink as "passionate" — was the structural difference. For a side that had trained only three times, Spelle's compact shape and willingness to run told a story of sharp early preparation.

For Spelle-Venhaus, this is a confidence-boosting start to Oberliga Niedersachsen preparations against a side two levels above them. Their next test is at home on Tuesday 24 June against the U21 of FC Twente/Heracles Almelo at the Getränke Hoffmann Stadion (19:00 CEST).

For FC Gütersloh, the defeat — their first pre-season outing of the summer — offers a clear checklist: sharpen finishing, improve defensive transitions, and build match fitness ahead of the Regionalliga West season starting in July. They were missing six players including injured regulars Jan Popov and Luca Tersteeg, and sick forward Tom Winnemöller.

A deserved win for the lower-league side, built on organisation and a moment of quality from Höpfner. Gütersloh will improve with minutes; Spelle-Venhaus have already set a tone that suggests they will be competitive in their Oberliga campaign.
