Stiepermann, who took over Rhynern after leaving Oberliga side ASC 09 Dortmund, set his team up in a 4-4-2 shape out of possession and gave a more flexible interpretation when they had the ball. His side controlled the opening half-hour and created the first clear chance through Errifai, who appeared unmarked on the left side of the box and slotted past Preußen goalkeeper Jonah Busse to open the scoring in the 12th minute.

Rhynern dominated the first 45 minutes, with Stiepermann describing a "small class difference" between the sides in that period. The second half, after Rhynern's complete XI change, was more even — Preußen could not convert their improved balance into a goal. This was the first pre-season outing for both sides. For Westfalia Rhynern, the win under their new coach marks a positive start to preparations for the 2026/27 Regionalliga West campaign. Stiepermann said he was "really satisfied with the first game" and emphasised that the early friendlies are about learning the squad and seeing "who copes on which positions, how the lads tick in the game, how they accept coaching."

Preußen Münster II, who compete in the Oberliga Westfalen, next face FC Schalke 04 II on 8 July 2026. Rhynern's next pre-season test is at TuS Eichlinghofen on 5 July 2026, followed by their DFB-Pokal debut in August — a historic moment for the club, which will host its first-round tie at the Preußenstadion in Münster.

One subplot to monitor: Henrik Koch, the 19-year-old midfielder on loan from SC Paderborn, started for Rhynern. His loan was due to end on 1 July, and Stiepermann said he hoped the player would stay, calling him "an enrichment" for the squad.

A routine pre-season win for Rhynern under their new manager, built on a dominant first-half display. The 2-1 scoreline was closer than the balance of play suggested, but the second-half rotation served its purpose. Stiepermann's Rhynern project is off to a winning start, albeit with much work still to do before the competitive season begins.
