Flamengo vs River Plate

Against the run of early play, River Plate struck first. Jorginho's misplaced back-pass was pounced on by Driussi, who rounded goalkeeper Agustín Rossi and slotted home from close range (8'). Flamengo had dominated possession up to that point, with Pedro forcing River goalkeeper Santiago Beltrán into two sharp saves.

The equaliser arrived after the hydration break. Both managers emptied their benches — Leonardo Jardim made eight changes across the half, while Eduardo Coudet made seven — and the game drifted into a midfield stalemate.

The 38th-minute Driussi equaliser. Had Bruno Henrique's header found the net three minutes earlier, Flamengo would have gone into half-time with a 3-1 lead and momentum. Instead, River's swift reply — scored within five minutes of falling behind — reset the contest and ensured neither side could gain control in a second half that produced few clear chances.

Sebastián Driussi (River Plate) — Two goals from two shots on target, both taken with composure. His first was a poacher's finish after the defensive error; his second showed movement and timing to meet González's cross. Player of the match.

Samuel Lino (Flamengo) — A goal (30') and an assist for Bruno Henrique's strike (33'). Direct and dangerous from the left flank, he created three chances before being substituted on 77 minutes.

Bruno Henrique (Flamengo) — One goal, the crossbar struck, and a general nuisance in the River box. His powerful turn and finish was the standout individual moment of the game.

Santiago Beltrán (River Plate) — Made two excellent first-half saves from Pedro to keep the score manageable. Could do little about either Flamengo goal.

The provider data confirms exactly what the eye test suggested: a frantic first half followed by a controlled, low-event second period. All four goals arrived in a 30-minute window between the 8th and 38th minutes. Fifteen substitutions across both sides in the second half — eight by Flamengo, seven by River — radically changed the personnel and broke any rhythm. The three yellow cards (F. Vera, E. Pulgar, G. For Flamengo, this was the first of three pre-season fixtures on their Portuguese training camp. They face Lausanne-Sport on 8 July before a showpiece Algarve Trophy match against Benfica on 11 July. Leonardo Jardim, who was born in Portugal, rotated heavily in the second half and will have useful data on his squad depth.

River Plate, under Eduardo Coudet, are early in their own pre-season build-up. A share of the spoils against one of South America's deepest squads is a reasonable return, especially having come from behind once.

A first half with genuine intensity and quality, followed by a second half that told us more about each squad's depth than their starting XIs. Driussi's double was the headline act, but Flamengo's response to going behind — scoring twice in three minutes — showed the attacking fluency Jardim is building. The draw was a fair outcome over 90 minutes that offered both managers plenty to work on.
