The Young Violets struck first. Gando Bah released Ewemade down the right flank and his low cross was turned in by Marco Brandt from close range in the 16th minute to give the visitors a deserved lead.

The home side made them pay. Mattersburg added a third in the 73rd minute to make it 3-1, capitalising on a flowing move that left the Young Violets defence exposed. Despite some bright late combinations from the visitors — notably a passage involving Silas Schoppitsch and Illia Menshykov — the final pass too often let them down.

Uhlig handed second-half minutes to several U18 talents including Hungarian youngster Noel Polonkai (17), Silas Schoppitsch, and Illia Menshykov.

Five first-team regulars — Valentin Toifl, Dominik Nišandžić, Hasan Deshishku, Daniel Nnodim and Romeo Mörth — were absent having been selected for FK Austria Wien's senior friendly against Debreceni VSC on the same day.

A routine pre-season workout for Mattersburg, who scored two identical set-piece goals and managed the game professionally after conceding early. The Young Violets showed bright moments in the final third — particularly through Jerabek and Brandt in the first half — but their lack of sharpness in both boxes told, especially with five senior players unavailable. The scoreline was a fair reflection of the gap in preparation and personnel on the day.
