Nafta vs Budapest Honved

The first half offered little in the way of clear-cut chances, with both sides using the fixture to build match sharpness ahead of their respective league campaigns. Honvéd controlled possession but could not break through a compact Nafta block before the interval.

The deadlock broke seven minutes into the second half. Midfielder Ádám Szamosi, a 19-year-old summer arrival from Diósgyőr, opened the scoring in the 52nd minute with a finish from inside the box. Szamosi joined Honvéd on a free transfer effective 1 July 2026.

Four minutes later, Honvéd doubled their lead. Ákos Zuigeber, the 23-year-old midfielder, found the net in the 56th minute to put the Hungarian side firmly in control.

The scoring was rounded off in stoppage time. Veteran winger Ádám Gyurcsó — a Hungarian international with 35 caps and over 350 career appearances in the Hungarian top flight — added a third in the 90+3rd minute to cap a dominant second-half display.

The game turned on a four-minute window either side of the hour mark. Nafta had navigated the first 52 minutes without conceding, but Szamosi's opener forced the Slovenian side to push forward, creating the space Zuigeber exploited almost immediately. Honvéd scored twice in four minutes — a sequence that effectively ended the contest before the 60th minute.

Ádám Szamosi — The 19-year-old defensive midfielder, signed on a free transfer from Diósgyőr, marked his early pre-season involvement with a well-taken goal. He also scored in Honvéd's previous friendly against Kisvárda (27 June), making it two goals in two pre-season appearances.

Ákos Zuigeber — The 23-year-old midfielder continued his strong pre-season form with a goal and a lively all-round performance in the centre of the park. Zuigeber, who joined Honvéd in July 2025, was involved in much of his side's best attacking work.

Ádám Gyurcsó — At 35, the veteran winger proved his enduring value with a stoppage-time goal. Gyurcsó, a former Hungary international with experience at Videoton and in the Hungarian top flight, brought experience and composure to the final third.

The 0–0 half-time scoreline reflected a cagey opening, with both sides prioritising fitness over risk. Honvéd's three goals all came from open play, suggesting they converted their chances efficiently when the game opened up. Nafta, by contrast, managed few meaningful attempts on goal — a pattern consistent with a side still building rhythm after a short off-season following their promotion play-off triumph in late May 2026.

Honvéd have now won both pre-season friendlies, following a 2–1 victory over Kisvárda on 27 June in which Szamosi also scored. The Hungarian side, who compete in the NB II after relegation from the top flight in 2024, are building momentum ahead of the 2026–27 season. Their next friendly is reportedly against Spanish La Liga side Villarreal CF on 24 July.

Nafta, promoted to the Slovenian PrvaLiga after finishing second in the Druga Liga and winning the promotion play-offs in May 2026, are still in the early stages of their pre-season programme. The Lendava-based club, playing in Slovenia's top division for the first time since their reformation in 2021, will face Romanian side FC Voluntari in their next friendly.

A professional, controlled performance from Honvéd, who took their chances in a decisive second-half spell. Nafta offered resistance in the first half but lacked the cutting edge to trouble the Hungarian side. For Honvéd, the clean sheet and three different scorers suggest attacking depth is building well; for Nafta, this was a useful test against a side with technical quality, and the competitive first-half showing offers encouragement ahead of their PrvaLiga return.
