Vasas vs Kisvarda FC

Vasas dominated the opening half-hour without reward. Urblík fired over the bar inside six minutes, Koszta headed wide from Tóth's cross in the ninth minute, and Csóka nodded a Kovácsréti delivery over the bar in the 17th. Kisvárda's Cristián Herc forced Engedi into a comfortable save in the 25th minute, but the home side were the more threatening.

The breakthrough came in the 34th minute. Tóth Milán drove down the left and delivered a pinpoint cross that Márk Koszta — a former Kisvárda player — met with a firm header from five metres into the centre of the goal. 1-0.

Sixty seconds later, it was 2-0. Tóth again escaped down the left, and his cross found Márk Kovácsréti — also a former Kisvárda player — who smashed a volley into the roof of the net from five metres. 2-0 after 35 minutes.

Kisvárda had a chance to pull one back before the break when Melnik's right-wing cross flew across the face of goal, but Novothny could not connect at the far post.

Both sides made wholesale changes at the interval. The second half was tighter until the 79th minute, when a short backpass allowed Gergő Pálinkás to intercept, round goalkeeper Papp Zsombor, and roll the ball into an empty net. 3-0.

Kisvárda responded immediately. Marko Matanović latched onto Osztrovka's through-ball and drilled a 15-metre shot into the top-right corner — goalkeeper Uram got a hand to it but could not keep it out. 3-1 in the 82nd minute.

The visitors pushed for a second in the closing stages. Mbock's free-kick flew narrowly over the bar, and Oláh Bálint headed wide from two Mbock corners either side of the 90th minute. Matanović fired wide from 14 metres in the 117th minute, but Vasas held firm.

The two-goal burst in the 34th and 35th minutes effectively decided the contest. Vasas had created the better chances without reward until Koszta's opener, and the quickfire double — both assisted by Tóth Milán from the left — forced Kisvárda to chase the game from inside the first half. The 2-0 lead at the break, combined with Vasas' ability to change their entire XI at half-time without losing control, demonstrated the depth Erős Gábor is building as the promoted side prepares for the NB I.

Márk Koszta (Vasas) — Opened the scoring with a well-timed near-post header from Tóth's cross. The forward, who spent the 2015-16 season at Kisvárda, showed the instinctive movement that prompted Vasas to sign him this summer.

Márk Kovácsréti (Vasas) — Found the net with a clinical volley for the second goal and was a constant threat from wide positions. Kovácsréti began his professional career at Kisvárda and made his NB I debut in their colours.

Tóth Milán (Vasas) — Provided two assists inside two minutes, tormenting the Kisvárda defence with his left-wing deliveries. His ability to beat his man and produce accurate crosses was the key tactical weapon in Vasas' first-half dominance.

Marko Matanović (Kisvárda) — The visitors' brightest spark in the second half. His well-taken 15-metre finish gave Kisvárda brief hope of a comeback, and he forced another save late on.

Because the match was played over 120 minutes in two 60-minute halves, standard per-90 statistics are not directly comparable. Vasas scored three goals from open play — two from left-wing crosses and one from a defensive error — while Kisvárda's goal came from a through-ball. The visitors created their best opportunities after the 80th minute, primarily from Mbock's set-pieces, with Oláh heading wide from two corners. The attendance was approximately 300 spectators at the Illovszky Stadion training pitch, with a strong contingent of Vasas supporters. The match was refereed by Káprály.

This result extends Vasas' promising pre-season run as they prepare for their return to the NB I, the Hungarian top flight, after winning promotion from the NB II. The fact that all three goalscorers — Koszta, Kovácsréti, and Pálinkás — are new signings will encourage manager Erős Gábor, who himself spent nine years at Kisvárda as a player and coach before taking over at Vasas.

For Kisvárda, this was their third pre-season friendly of the summer. They had previously beaten Slovakian side Tatran Prešov 5-0 and lost 2-1 to Kispest-Honvéd. Manager Supka Attila was without the injured Soltész Dominik, Martin Chlumecky, Gyurkó Máté and Teslim Balogun, while Ridwan Popoola was recently sold to Dubai side Al-Wasl.

Vasas continue their pre-season with a friendly against Kolorcity Kazincbarcika on 11 July. Kisvárda also face Kolorcity Kazincbarcika on the same day, before further friendlies against Bukovina Csernovci (15 July) and MFK Zemlplyn Michalovce (18 July). Both sides open their competitive seasons on 25 July 2026, when the new OTP Bank Liga season begins — Kisvárda host Kispest-Honvéd at the Várkerti Stadion.

A controlled, professional performance from Vasas against a fellow NB I side. The new signings hitting the ground running is the most encouraging takeaway for the promoted club. Kisvárda were competitive in spells — particularly in the second half — but lacked the cutting edge in the final third that their opponents showed in decisive moments.
