Fabinski's under-hit back-pass in first-half stoppage time was the decisive moment. Krumrey, making his VfL debut, had no choice but to challenge the Jablonec forward and conceded the penalty. VfL's defensive structure held firm for 46 minutes of the first half, allowing Jablonec no clear chances from open play. The only shot on target in the first period was the penalty. The second half saw a more adventurous VfL side: Badjie's chance, a Leonhard Münst header and a Luca Kröger effort from a rebound all came inside 20 second-half minutes. But Jablonec's experience showed in game management — they absorbed pressure without conceding a second clear sight of goal. The Czech side's discipline out of possession, rather than their attacking output, won the match.

This was VfL Osnabrück's second pre-season friendly of the 2026/27 summer preparation and their first defeat (following a 0-0 draw with SC Melle). The team returned to Osnabrück on Monday 13 July and will resume training from Wednesday 15 July. For Jablonec, the win continues their build-up to the new Czech First League season, which is expected to begin in late July.

VfL's next fixture is unconfirmed at the time of writing, but their 2. Bundesliga campaign begins in August 2026. The wait for the club's first goal of the pre-season continues.

A typically tight pre-season friendly decided by a single defensive error. VfL's structure and fitness levels looked encouraging across two distinct XIs, but the lack of a cutting edge in the final third is a concern Schultz will want to address before competitive action resumes. Jablonec did what was needed without needing to move through the gears.
