Matlock Town vs Quorn

Matlock struck first. A corner was only half-cleared by Quorn, and the ball fell for Tom Senior to tap in from close range in the 17th minute. The Gladiators grew in confidence after the goal, and it took a sharp save from Quorn's first-half trialist goalkeeper to keep the deficit at one heading into the break.

Beswick had signalled his intention to use a near-wholly different XI in each half, a pattern he also employed in the previous friendly against Barwell (source: Quorn FC report). This was a pre-season friendly, so the result carries no competitive weight. For Quorn, the comeback against a Northern Premier League side offers a useful confidence marker ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. Matlock manager Ricky Ravenhill will have seen positives in the first-half display but concerns about how his side conceded three goals in 24 minutes after the break.
