For FC Aarau, this is an encouraging result against a Bundesliga side as they put the finishing touches on their pre-season preparations. The Swiss Challenge League campaign begins on Friday 24 July away at Étoile Carouge (20:15 CET).

A pre-season friendly decided by three penalties is rarely a classic, and this was no exception. Aarau will take confidence from holding their own against top-flight opposition, while Union Berlin have defensive issues to tighten before the Bundesliga season begins.
