PSV Eindhoven vs Union St. Gilloise

PSV head coach Peter Bosz fielded a strong first-team XI for the opening 75 minutes, and the hosts took control early. Ryan Flamingo opened the scoring in the 30th minute, towering above the Union defence to head home a corner from Sven Mijnans. Three minutes later, Dennis Man doubled the lead — collecting Mijnans' pass, turning away from his marker and firing home from 17 metres.

Union hit back quickly. Fuseini reduced the deficit with a clever chip over Nick Olij in the 37th minute, but PSV restored their two-goal cushion before half-time when Sven Mijnans saw his shot deflected past the Union goalkeeper for his first unofficial goal in a PSV shirt. 3-1.

Union came out stronger after the break. Olij produced a fine double-save, first stopping a penalty and then denying the rebound. The visitors hit the post before Fuseini scored his second to make it 3-2. The Belgians pushed for an equaliser, and with 15 minutes of the first period remaining, Smith levelled the scores at 3-3.

Bosz switched to an entirely different XI for the second 75-minute period, introducing a young lineup alongside the returning Van Bommel. Joël van den Berg headed PSV back in front in the 9th minute of the second match (84th overall), directing his header into the far corner. That goal broke Union's momentum and the young PSV side never looked back.

Amir Bouhamdi extended the lead with a well-struck shot (31st minute of second period, 106th overall), and Sami Bouhoudane made it 6-3 soon after, finishing from a Myron Boadu pass. Austyn Jones completed the scoring in the closing stages, rounding off a 7-3 victory.

Sven Mijnans — a summer signing — created the first two goals and scored the third, an influential display in his first unofficial outing. Dennis Man was sharp in the first period, scoring once and stretching the Union defence with his direct running. Ruben van Bommel made his comeback after long-term injury, playing 30 minutes and showing flashes of his trademark speed before being replaced by Boadu.

The 7-3 scoreline reflects a match played over 150 minutes — effectively a double-header — rather than a standard 90-minute contest. PSV's first XI outscored Union 3-3 in the opening 75 minutes, while their young second XI dominated the second period 4-0. The match featured 10 goals, a penalty save, a goal against the post, and the return of a key winger from long-term injury.

This was PSV's third pre-season friendly of summer 2026, following a 1-1 draw with Antwerp (4 July) and a match against Raków Częstochowa (11 July). The win continues PSV's unbeaten start to pre-season. Union Saint-Gilloise, preparing for the 2026-27 Belgian Pro League season, will have been encouraged by their first-half performance but concerned by how quickly the game slipped away in the second period.

PSV's next outing is against Villarreal CF at the Philips Stadion on 25 July as part of the PSV FANdag, followed by the traditional Lichtstadderby against FC Eindhoven on 28 July.

A productive pre-season workout for PSV, who used the 150-minute format to give minutes to both their established starters and young prospects. Mijnans and Man looked sharp in attack, while the return of Van Bommel adds depth to Bosz's forward options. Union matched PSV for the first 75 minutes but had no answer to the hosts' youthful energy in the second period.
