Basford United and Gainsborough Trinity played out a 1-1 draw at Greenwich Avenue on Saturday, 18 July 2026, with an own goal from Brad Wilson cancelling out Nyle Blake's first-half header in a competitive pre-season workout.

How it unfolded

Russ Wilcox's side continue their unbeaten start to pre-season ahead of the NPL Premier Division season, where they finished 7th in 2025/26.

Trinity were without Elliott Whitehouse, Bobby Johnson, Callum Hawkins and Aaron Simpson — absences that Wilcox acknowledged remain a concern.

"We're performing well, but I'm still concerned about the injuries," Wilcox said. "We need to get a few back and make sure the squad's got good depth."

Basford United, who compete in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division, are managed by Willis Francis with Martin Carruthers serving as Head of Football. The Ambers reached the NPL Midlands Division play-off semi-finals in 2025/26, losing to Belper Town on penalties.
