Hanworth Villa vs Carshalton Athletic

Carshalton dominated the opening half-hour, manager Steven Bates having named a strong starting XI that included forwards Nathan Young-Coombes and Fadahunsi alongside new goalkeeper Ben Dudzinski.

Young-Coombes had a goal ruled out for a foul in the build-up on 22 minutes, but the Robins' pressure told in the 31st minute. The five-minute spell between the 49th and 54th minutes flipped the game completely. Carshalton had controlled the first half; within 300 seconds of the restart, they were behind. Curtis' equaliser — a well-taken finish after ghosting past his marker — opened the door, and Ansah-Palmer's unmarked header from the resulting corner slammed it shut. The home side's momentum was irresistible, and the visitors never recovered their first-half composure.

Tope Fadahunsi (Carshalton Athletic) — Took his goal well for his third of pre-season and was a constant threat, forcing a second-half save and going close with a late drive that drifted just wide.

Hanworth Villa's 2-1 victory was a tale of two halves. Carshalton created the clearer chances in the opening 45 minutes — Young-Coombes hitting the post, a disallowed goal, Ladapo testing the keeper — but the hosts' quickfire double after the break flipped the momentum decisively. The final scoreline flattered the Robins' first-half superiority slightly, but Villa's second-half efficiency was ruthless: two goals from three meaningful chances. The pre-season context matters — both sides made multiple changes — but the pattern of a game that swung entirely after the interval was unmistakable.

Hanworth Villa, promoted to the Southern League Premier Division South (Step 3) last season after beating Westfield in the playoff final, have now won three consecutive pre-season friendlies. They continue their preparations at home to Kingstonian on Tuesday 21 July (19:45 kick-off).

Carshalton Athletic, who retained their Isthmian League Premier Division status on the final day last season by two points, have now lost two of their four pre-season outings. They host Sutton Common Rovers on Monday 20 July (19:45 kick-off).

A game of two halves in the truest sense. Carshalton were the sharper side early on and should have led by more than one, but Hanworth's response after the break — sparked by Curtis' individual quality — was emphatic. For a pre-season friendly played on a 50th anniversary occasion with a commemorative kit, the script could hardly have been written better for the home side. Both teams will have learned plenty; the defending on set pieces will be the main takeaway for Carshalton's coaching staff.
