QPR vs Wycombe

Wycombe head coach Michael Duff fielded a completely different XI in each half, making 10 changes at the interval as part of his pre-season preparations for the League One campaign.

Ewan Henderson produced the visitors' best chance of the first half when he met a long throw with a first-time effort on target, while new signing Silko Thomas had a goal ruled out for offside. QPR also saw an effort disallowed in an evenly contested opening period.

"I thought we were excellent in the first half, probably should have scored two or three goals," Duff told the Bucks Free Press. "We had a goal disallowed; they had a goal disallowed."

Wycombe made 10 substitutions at half-time, bringing on a second XI that included the likes of Ched Evans, Mikki van Sas, Fred Onyedinma, and Cauley Woodrow.

QPR also rotated heavily, introducing Richard Kone, Kwame Poku, Ilias Chair, and several others around the hour mark.

The goal arrived in the 80th minute when Kone — who joined QPR from Wycombe in January 2026 — got on the end of a delivery in the box and headed home from close range. The Championship side's greater depth and second-half control told as Wycombe struggled to replicate their first-half rhythm.

Duff was blunt in his assessment of the second half: "Really disappointed with the second half. Didn't do any of the things that we're asked to do, which we did in the first half. So, it just goes to show they've come off structure a little bit."

Richard Kone (QPR) — The match-winner against his former employers. The striker's close-range header in the 80th minute was the decisive moment of an otherwise tightly contested friendly. His movement off the ball caused problems throughout the second half.

Wycombe's 10 half-time substitutions made this a game of two distinct halves, rendering overall possession and shot stats less meaningful than the split between periods. The first half was evenly contested, with both sides having goals disallowed and creating similar chances. The second half tilted decisively toward QPR, who had the greater quality on the pitch and eventually found the breakthrough through Kone.

This was QPR's third pre-season friendly of the summer, following their 4-2 win over SC Wiener Neustadt in Austria. The Championship side continue their preparations ahead of the 2026-27 season.

For Wycombe, this was the second game of their pre-season programme after a 4-0 win over Ebbsfleet United on 11 July. The League One side face Portsmouth on 25 July before hosting Ipswich Town on 1 August. Their League One campaign begins on 15 August away at Blackpool.

Duff downplayed the result, saying: "Ultimately, it's minutes and legs. Other than results, not interested in results generally at this moment."

A straightforward pre-season workout defined by squad rotation and fitness-building rather than competitive intensity. Kone's goal against his former side was the only moment of incision in a game that served its purpose for both managers. The first-half performance will encourage Duff; the second-half drop-off reminded him that work remains before the League One opener.
