Sittingbourne — who play two divisions below Tonbridge in the Isthmian League South East Division (Step 4) — responded before half-time. L. Smith levelled in the 38th minute, and the sides went in level at 1–1.

The Brickies took the lead for the first time in the 67th minute through a Trialist A, prompting the home side's official X account to post: "1-2 Sittingbourne take the lead."

But Tonbridge responded swiftly. Jephte Tanga restored parity in the 73rd minute, just six minutes after Sittingbourne had gone ahead, and the match finished 2–2 — a result that pre-match data models had assigned just a 5.8% likelihood.

Tanga's 73rd-minute equaliser arrived almost immediately after Sittingbourne had seized control. The quick response prevented the Angels from suffering a second home defeat in pre-season following their 0-2 loss to Sutton United on 14 July, and kept the momentum heading into the final phase of preparations.

Tonbridge open their competitive National League South campaign away at Braintree Town on Saturday 8 August 2026, followed by their first home league fixture against Torquay United on 15 August.
