Bonne's first goal on 33 minutes — a clinical counter-attacking finish — flipped the game decisively in Billericay's favour. Gianluca Botti (Dartford) — On his first start after missing part of pre-season, Botti was closest to scoring for Dartford with a header that flew just wide.

The 3-0 scoreline reflected a clear gap in sharpness between the two sides. Billericay, who Greenhalgh noted had "only lost one or two games since January," took their chances with ruthless efficiency. Dartford, by contrast, were unable to create enough clear openings — something Greenhalgh acknowledged: "We didn't create enough chances tonight. In other games we've created loads of chances but not scored."

Head-to-head, the result trimmed Dartford's lead in the nine-match series to 5-3 (one draw), with Billericay having now won consecutive meetings.

The defeat was Dartford's first in five pre-season friendlies this summer, but Greenhalgh stressed that results are secondary at this stage of preparation. "Nothing really matters [now] apart from keeping players fit," the manager said. The Darts were without five players on the night, with several key figures — including Waggy, Jez and E Man — expected back for the next fixture.

Dartford travel to Faversham on Saturday 25 July as they continue their pre-season schedule. Billericay Town, building towards their Isthmian Premier Division campaign, will have been encouraged by a performance that Greenhalgh described as "the best we've faced so far" in pre-season.

A straightforward pre-season verdict: Billericay Town were sharper, more clinical and better organised, exactly what you would expect from a side that went up via the play-offs. Greenhalgh was right to downplay the result — pre-season is about minutes and fitness — but the manner of the defeat, particularly the three preventable errors, gives him clear material to work on before the competitive season begins on 8 August.
