Wycombe vs Yeovil Town

Wycombe's starting XI featured considerable League One experience, including new signing Steve Cook — the former AFC Bournemouth defender with over 500 league appearances — alongside midfielders Luke Leahy and Josh Scowen, defender Dan Casey, and striker Bradley Fink.

Wycombe's third goal, scored by Fink, proved decisive. Yeovil had worked their way back into the game through Obeng's strike and were showing signs of building momentum. Fink's goal — the product of sharp build-up play from a side that pressed aggressively from minute one — restored the two-goal buffer and forced Yeovil to chase the game again. McCormick's late finish gave the scoreline a closer look, but Wycombe always carried the greater threat.

Mason Obeng (Yeovil Town) — The winger, signed from Southern League side Walton & Hersham in the summer, scored his second goal of pre-season with a trademark curled finish. Rowley praised his work out of possession, calling him "one of our better players."

Luke McCormick (Yeovil Town) — Took his goal well after combining with Gubbins, providing a late spark for the Glovers.

Bradley Fink (Wycombe Wanderers) — The striker, who played over 30 times in League One last season, scored what proved to be the winner.

Caolan Boyd-Munce (Wycombe Wanderers) — Midfielder got on the scoresheet in an all-action display.

As a behind-closed-doors friendly, detailed match stats were not published. However, the flow of the game was clear from both managers' accounts: an end-to-end contest with "a lot of space behind" both defences, as Rowley put it. Both teams had spells of control and created chances on the counter. Wycombe's pressing organisation was singled out by the Yeovil boss as a benchmark for his side — a reflection of the gulf in sharpness between a League One side deep into pre-season and a National League team still building match rhythm.

For Wycombe, this was another useful pre-season run-out against lower-league opposition as they build towards the 2026-27 League One campaign. For Yeovil, the fixture offered a genuine test against full-time professionals. Rowley described the experience as "a good eye-opener" and a yardstick for the level of athleticism and organisation his side needs to reach ahead of their National League opener at Scunthorpe United on 8 August.

Yeovil's next pre-season fixture is away at National League South side Farnham Town on Tuesday 28 July. Wycombe's next friendly was not confirmed at the time of writing.

A productive exercise for both sides. Wycombe's quality in key areas told, but Yeovil showed they can compete against higher-level opposition in spells. Obeng continues to look like a shrewd addition for the Glovers, while the minutes shared across the squad will serve Rowley well as he builds towards the real business in two weeks' time.
