Besançon and Sélestat have now met seven times across all competitions since 2021. Sélestat still leads the series 5–2, but this was Besançon's first victory in the fixture on home court. A composed, disciplined performance from Besançon against a Starligue side still finding its pre-season feet. The loanee subplot added edge, but the result came down to sharper execution on the day. Sélestat will need to raise their level significantly before the league opener in 12 days. Besançon, by contrast, have already shown they can compete above their division.
