The defining phase came in the opening quarter-hour when Alingsås surged to a lead Kärra could not bridge. The second leg takes place at Lillekärrshallen on Saturday 22 August (14:00 CEST). Alingsås hold a 12-goal cushion, meaning Kärra need a 13-goal win just to force extra time. The aggregate winner advances to the round of 16, where either HK Aranäs or Tyresö Handboll will await. Aranäs lead their first leg 35–31.

Alingsås produced their finest ever performance against Kärra at exactly the right moment.
