Sydney Ice Dogs advance to face Newcastle Northstars in Semi-Final 2 on Saturday 29 August at 6:00 PM AEST (kickoff 08:00 UTC) at O'Brien Icehouse. The Northstars finished first in the regular season with 65 points and swept the season series 3-0 (8-3, 4-3, 6-3), outscoring the Ice Dogs 18-9.

Perth Thunder's season ends in the Preliminary Final. It is a deflating finish for a side that reached finals for the sixth consecutive year but lost eight of its final 10 games dating back to 25 July. The Thunder's 48-point regular season (13-11-5-3) will feel distant after a 1-6 finish to the campaign.

Sydney Ice Dogs arrived as the hottest team in the competition — winners of four of their last five — and played like a side that believed it belonged.
