Omskie Krylia vs Kurgan

First period — scoreless, but Omskie building pressure

The opening 20 minutes produced no goals, but the shot count (19-9 in favour of Omskie Krylia, 9-4 on target) signalled what was to come. Both sides took two penalties each, and Omskie killed off two minor infractions against Pavel Leuka.

Second period — six-goal explosion

The floodgates opened in the 24th minute. Kirill Kozhevnikov opened the scoring on the power play at 23:29, one-timing a feed from Kirill Tagirov past Mikhail Nikishin. Just 11 seconds later, Eduard Golodnyuk made it 2-0, finishing a pass from Egor Popov.

Alexander Loktev stretched the lead to 3-0 at 31:15, converting a setup from Egor Stepanov. Kurgan then took three consecutive minor penalties, and Omskie made them pay. Maxim Kazakov scored on the power play at 35:20 (Tagirov with the second assist of his afternoon), before Alexander Protapovich (37:16) and Pavel Leuka (39:43) added even-strength goals to make it 6-0 at the second intermission.

Kurgan managed just three shots in the second period; Omskie fired 18 on goal.

Third period — Loktev and Egorov add gloss

Alexander Loktev scored his second of the game on the power play at 43:27, again assisted by Stepanov. Alexey Egorov completed the scoring at 58:34, with Stepanov picking up his third assist of the afternoon for the 8-0 final.

The 11-second sequence between 23:29 and 23:40, when Kozhevnikov and Golodnyuk scored in rapid succession, ruptured a competitive first period and sent Omskie into a two-goal lead they never looked like relinquishing. Kurgan, having conceded late in period one the previous day (7-3 loss), had no answer to the two quick strikes.

• Alexander Loktev (#47) — 2 goals (31:15, 43:27), both opportunistic finishes around the net. His second was a power-play tip-in.
• Egor Stepanov (#88) — 3 assists, setting up Loktev twice and also involved in the Egorov goal. The primary playmaker on Omskie's most productive line.
• Kirill Tagirov (#66) — 2 primary assists (Kozhevnikov PP, Kazakov PP), instrumental in both power-play markers.
• Sergey Dolgov (#40) — 11-save shutout. Faced little danger but stayed sharp during the quiet first period.

Player of the match: Egor Stepanov — three assists and dominant puck possession in the offensive zone.

The 67-22 shot differential (35-11 on goal) tells a story of total territorial control, not just finishing luck. Omskie Krylia's 6.00 xG-equivalent shot volume (using shots-on-goal as a proxy) dwarfed Kurgan's 1.83. The 24-24 faceoff split was the only category that stayed even, suggesting Omskie's dominance came from forechecking and zone time rather than the dot.

Kurgan blocked 12 shots but were still outshot 3:1. Omskie's 6 penalty minutes to Kurgan's 14 — with the visitors taking 7 minors — reflects a team that was chasing the game from the second period onward.

This was the second of back-to-back pre-season friendlies between these VHL sides. Omskie Krylia, the farm team of KHL club Avangard Omsk, won 7-3 on 3 August and improved to 8-0 on 4 August. Kurgan (Zauralye) finished the 2025/26 VHL regular season in 24th place and will look to sharpen up defensively before the 2026/27 campaign begins in September.

For Omskie Krylia, the two thumping victories — 15 goals scored, 3 conceded — represent a strong start to pre-season preparations. The VHL season typically tips off in the first week of September.

A complete mismatch, as the scoreline suggests. Omskie Krylia's speed and power-play execution (3/7) exposed a Kurgan side that took too many penalties and generated almost nothing offensively. Pre-season context applies — both sides rotated heavily — but the 8-0 margin accurately reflected the gap on the day.
