Jokerit vs SaiPa

Jokerit seized control inside the opening seven minutes. Alexander Forslund opened the scoring at 6:52, converting a feed from Oliver Suni after build-up play by Jere Henriksson.

The floodgates opened in a four-minute spell midway through the first period. Jesse Liuksiala doubled the lead on the powerplay at 12:36, finishing first-time from Henriksson and Forslund. Bruno Kallio added a sixth at 42:28 in the third period, bursting into a partial breakaway and firing precisely past the SaiPa replacement netminder. Henriksson bagged his second of the night at 48:10 from Forslund and Suni to make it 7-0. SaiPa's Petr Fridrich spoiled Veini Vehviläinen's shutout bid with a consolation goal at 56:57, assisted by Saku Salminen.

The match was effectively decided in the 12th–17th minute window of the first period. After Forslund's opener, Jokerit scored three times in 4:01 — two at even strength and one on the powerplay — to establish a 4-0 lead that SaiPa never threatened. SaiPa goaltender Gustavs Grigals, who conceded all four first-period goals, was replaced for the final two periods, according to Finnish media (MTV Uutiset).

Jere Henriksson — Player of the Match. The forward registered 2+2 (four points), scoring in the second and third periods while setting up two others. "Kyllähän joukkue saa näistä (voitoista) itseluottamusta. Ne auttavat varsinkin nyt, kun pre-season on näin lyhyt," Henriksson told Jokerit.fi post-game.

Alexander Forslund — A four-point night (1+3). His early opener set the tone, and his vision on the powerplay kept SaiPa's penalty kill guessing all evening.

Oliver Suni — A goal and two assists from the second line. His deflection of Krogdahl's pass at 15:09 was the kind of net-front presence that will be vital in Liiga proper.

Veini Vehviläinen — The Jokerit netminder was rarely tested seriously but remained composed through the night, surrendering only Fridrich's late consolation.

The 7-1 scoreline reflects a game that was never competitive after the first 17 minutes. Jokerit scored four goals in the opening period, demonstrating devastating finishing efficiency. SaiPa managed just one goal from limited high-danger chances, with Jokerit's defensive structure — noted as "mallikasta" (exemplary) in the club's own match report — keeping opposition forwards to the perimeter. The two powerplay goals (Henriksson, Liuksiala) underline a special-teams edge that proved decisive against a SaiPa side missing several key regulars.

Jokerit claimed the Marski Cup for the sixth time in club history, adding to previous titles in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2007. The win follows their 3-1 semi-final victory over Jukurit on 14 August; SaiPa reached the final by beating JYP 3-2.

Both sides were without key personnel. Jokerit rested Patrik Virta, Maxime Fortier, Henri Nikkanen and Antti Kalapudas, among others. SaiPa were missing Einar Emanuelsson, Petrus Palmu, Samuel Niinisaari and Patrik Siikanen, per MTV Uutiset.

Next up for Jokerit: a home friendly against reigning Liiga champions Tappara at Tikkurilan Areena on Wednesday 19 August (face-off 18:30 EEST). SaiPa's pre-season schedule continues as they prepare for the 2026-27 Liiga campaign starting 1 September.
