Liptovsky Mikulas vs Michalovce

Michalovce struck first at 8:03 of the opening period when Róbert Fedor converted from Jakub Meliško and Dominik Kišš to put the visitors ahead. But Liptovský Mikuláš responded emphatically, scoring three times before the first intermission.

Lukáš Ľalík levelled at 12:32 from Jakub Nespala and Marek Vankúš. With Michalovce's Matthew Boucher in the penalty box for tripping, Tomáš Záborský made it 2-1 on the power play at 18:09, with Vojtech and Sena Acolatse providing the assists. Pavol Funtek then added a third at 19:25, redirecting Jaworski's feed to make it 3-1 after 20 minutes.

Michal Chovan extended the lead to 4-1 at 27:36 of the second period, but Michalovce struck twice in 33 seconds to drag themselves back into the contest. Liptovský Mikuláš restored breathing room early in the third when Aidan De La Gorgendiere finished from Nespala and Vankúš at 46:18. Acolatse scored on the power play at 49:13 — with Chovan and Vojtech again the providers — to make it 6-3. Boucher pulled one back for Michalovce at 55:54, but Vojtech sealed the result at 57:01, one-timing Jaworski's feed past Michalovce goalkeeper Samuel Godla.

Michalovce had clawed back a three-goal deficit to within one late in the second period, carrying real momentum into the dressing room. But Liptovský Mikuláš snuffed that momentum inside 46 seconds of the third. De La Gorgendiere's blast from the point at 46:18 restored the two-goal cushion, and Acolatse's power-play strike at 49:13 — set up by Chovan and Vojtech cycling behind the net — effectively killed the contest. From 4-3 to 6-3 in under three minutes was a blow Michalovce could not recover from.

Michal Chovan (LMI) — 1 goal, 2 assists. The veteran, who joined from Košice in the off-season, showed his class in the middle of the ice, scoring the 4-1 goal and setting up two more.

John Jaworski (LMI) — 3 assists. The American import worked the cycle effectively and picked out Funtek, Chovan and Vojtech with primary helpers.

Róbert Fedor (MIC) — 2 goals. The forward was Michalovce's brightest attacking threat, scoring in the first and second periods.

The 7-4 scoreline tells a tale of Liptovský Mikuláš's efficiency rather than total dominance: they scored on 2 of their 3 power-play opportunities (67%) while keeping Michalovce scoreless on the man advantage despite taking five minor penalties. The home side's 3-1 first-period lead was built on back-to-back strikes inside 76 seconds late in the frame, capitalising on a tripping call against Boucher. Michalovce's response — two goals in 33 seconds in the second period — showed their resilience but also a defensive fragility that conceded a 4-1 lead in the first place.

For Liptovský Mikuláš, this was their first pre-season fixture of the summer after a squad overhaul that included the arrival of Chovan and the departure of American goaltender Michael Houser, who retired at 33. Head coach Aleš Totter recently trimmed the roster from 33 to 28 players, and several bubble candidates — particularly Nespala and Vankúš, who each had two assists — made strong cases for opening-night spots.

Michalovce, coached by Jakub Ručkay, entered with two pre-season games already under their belts: a loss to Humenné and a win in Spišská Nová Ves. Despite the defeat, the team generated nine goals across their first three friendlies, with Fedor and Boucher both finding the net regularly. Attacking output is not the concern — tightening up defensively before the league season starts will be the priority.

Both sides will continue their pre-season programmes ahead of the 2026-27 Tipos extraliga campaign, which begins in September.

A predictably loose pre-season affair that Liptovský Mikuláš controlled through superior special teams (2-for-3 on the PP) and Vojtech's creative spark. Michalovce's fightback from 4-1 to 4-3 was admirable but ultimately undone by two quick strikes early in the third. Pre-season friendly results carry limited weight, but Vojtech, Chovan and Jaworski already look like a functional top line for Aleš Totter's side.
